TEHRAN: The resumption of direct flights between Iran and the United Arab Emirates is set to take place next week, following approval from aviation authorities in both nations. This announcement comes after a prolonged suspension of flights, a consequence of escalating military tensions in the region.
Resumption of Flights
Majid Akhavan, a spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation, confirmed that the required authorizations for the flights to recommence have been granted, and operations will restart on July 1. Initially, Iranian airlines will operate these flights, with other carriers expected to join the route as necessary evaluations are completed. Akhavan noted that the revival of flights on additional international routes is currently under scrutiny and will hinge on receiving proper regulatory approvals.

Amid these developments, an official from Iran’s trade sector mentioned that trade activity, particularly concerning cargo, is gradually returning. Due to “wartime conditions,” certain containers had been unable to clear customs at the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port, but the situation is improving. The official expressed optimism that trade volumes could eventually rise back to what they were before the recent conflicts.

According to the state-run news agency IRNA, the clearance of cargo has resumed after a series of U.S. strikes targeted various Iranian locations. These military actions were a response to a reported attack on a cargo vessel in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, an area crucial for international shipping.
