Following his donation of a plush 747 jet to the U.S., the affluent Emir of Qatar has invested over million in a seven-month renovation of his 404-foot superyacht. The 0 million vessel has now topped off her 500,000-liter fuel tanks in preparation for her next voyage.

2026 marks a significant milestone for Al Lusail, the impressive 404-foot yacht owned by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. This luxurious vessel, valued at approximately $500 million, recently underwent a comprehensive seven-month refit, symbolizing a new era for one of the most extravagant yachts in the world. According to information from Lürssen Yachts, Al Lusail is now ready for the upcoming summer season, having returned to service after extensive updates.

Refit Details and Specifications

Al Lusail boasts an impressive volume of 8,489 GT, categorizing it among the largest yachts globally. The refit was not merely cosmetic; it involved crucial technical maintenance, including hull inspections, generator servicing, and updates to automation systems. Given the yacht’s size, age, and the duration of the refurbishment, this major overhaul is the first documented since its launch in 2017. The work took place at Lürssen’s facilities in Bremen/Lemwerder, which specialize in handling superyachts exceeding 100 meters.

Designed by H2 Yacht Design for the exterior and March & White for the interior, Al Lusail is filled with lavish amenities. The yacht features pools, Jacuzzis, a beach club, and even a helipad. Its return to the open sea is highly anticipated, with its first journey marked by a route to Gibraltar on June 26, 2026.

Cosmetic Enhancements and Maintenance

While technical upgrades are essential, cosmetic aspects play a critical role in maintaining the yacht’s visual identity. The extensive refit included repainting the hull, performing teak work across all six decks, and meticulous attention to glazing and façade details. The complexity of such a large yacht makes the painting process particularly demanding, often requiring substantial preparation that can cost upwards of $15 million alone. The stunning glass façades of Al Lusail offer breathtaking views and abundant natural light but also require elegant upkeep.

Interiors are closely held secrets among luxury yachts, but one can speculate that updates were also made within Al Lusail’s guest quarters. This likely included new fabrics, updated furniture, and refined lighting to enhance its sophisticated atmosphere. The vessel is designed around a stunning central atrium, promoting a sense of openness and mobility, steering clear of the cramped feel that can accompany large ships.

Luxurious Accommodations and Guest Experience

Al Lusail’s grandeur extends beyond mere aesthetics. The yacht can accommodate up to 36 guests across 18 suites, supported by facilities for 56 crew members. In addition to comfortable living spaces, the yacht is equipped with a cinema, a gym, a spa, and various outdoor leisure areas, making it an opulent retreat at sea. Considering these attributes, the overall refit cost is estimated to fall in the vicinity of $35 million.

As Al Lusail prepares for yet another summer adventure, its remarkable speed of 19 knots, powered by twin MTU diesel engines, only adds to its appeal. With a fuel capacity of 500,000 liters, it possesses a range of around 4,500 nautical miles, signifying that the yacht is built for long-lasting journeys. Qatar’s royal family is expected to be frequently seen soaking in the Mediterranean sun, using an array of custom tenders that complement the yacht’s extravagant design.

In summary, the comprehensive refit of Al Lusail doesn’t just represent maintenance but reaffirms its position as a luxurious marine oasis. With its return to service just in time for the summer, the yacht is set to captivate once again, merging sophistication with ultimate comfort in a stunning display of Qatar’s royal heritage.
