Major July Updates in Travel, Business, and Lifestyle: UAE Introduces New Rail Services and School Breaks

July promises to be a transformative month across the UAE, bringing significant developments in education, transportation, business regulations, and leisure activities. These changes are expected to benefit residents and visitors alike, contributing to a vibrant summer experience.

School Holidays Begin Across the Emirates

As summer sets in, students throughout the UAE will officially begin their school holidays in early July. With the Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) announcing the schedule, various educational institutions will close for their extended break. In Dubai, private schools are set to conclude their academic year around July 6, while public schools will wrap up even earlier. This gives families nearly two months to enjoy quality time together before the new academic session commences on August 31, 2026.

Extended Paid Parking Hours in Sharjah

In a significant move to improve convenience and generate additional revenue, Sharjah has announced an extension of paid public parking hours. Starting July 1, parking fees will apply until midnight in prominent areas, including Kalba, Khorfakkan, and Al Dhaid. This change standardizes the parking fee structure, eliminating previous discrepancies among different zones. The goal is to streamline enforcement and enhance the overall parking experience for residents and visitors.

Launch of Etihad Rail Passenger Services

A major development in transportation is unfolding with the preliminary operations of Etihad Rail commence. Limited passenger services began in late June, connecting Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, with travel time estimated at roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes. This rollout is part of a phased approach, with comprehensive network connectivity anticipated by 2027. The initiative is expected to revolutionize domestic travel, decreasing reliance on road transport and reshaping inter-emirate connectivity.

Summer Festivals and Digital Advancements

The UAE’s premier summer retail and entertainment event, Dubai Summer Surprises, kicks off on July 2. Spanning 60 days, this festival features enticing discounts, concerts, food events, and raffles throughout Dubai. This year, participants can look forward to prize giveaways worth millions, including cars, gold, and cash rewards.

Furthermore, the UAE is embracing digital transformation with the introduction of an e-invoicing pilot, effective July 1. Targeting large businesses first, especially those with annual revenues exceeding Dh50 million, this initiative aims to enhance transparency and improve tax compliance across various sectors.

As the UAE ushers in these significant changes, residents can anticipate a dynamic environment filled with new opportunities, improved transport options, and festive attractions.
