After making a mark by reaching the state playoffs in their first two years and posting an impressive nine wins, the Warriors believe their seasoned senior defensive line could be instrumental in achieving their goals in this competitive league.
Defensive Line Strength
The foundation of New Egypt’s defense lies in its versatile senior defensive line. This unit brings together players who are not only skilled but also possess a significant amount of varsity experience. Head coach Steve Fence highlighted the importance of this collective strength, stating that having a reliable defensive line allows them to minimize blitzing and heightens their chances of stopping the run effectively.
Defensive line coach Adam Sacco expressed confidence in the leadership and talent within the group, mentioning that several players show considerable promise in potentially dominating games. “We’ve got great leadership,” he noted, emphasizing that the cohesiveness of the unit is crucial to their success on the field.
Key Players to Watch
Among the standout players is Nick Johnson, a senior defensive end known for both his strong performances and leadership. Last season, he recorded 24 tackles and six tackles for loss, all while playing with a torn labrum. His resilience and performance have already garnered attention from Division III scouts. “He was by far our best run stopper last year,” Coach Fence remarked, praising Johnson’s consistently strong work ethic.
Paul Kennedy, another senior defensive end standing at 6’6″, adds height and reach to the defensive front, while Mike Rousseau and Jake Milicia strengthen the middle. With returning senior starters, the Warriors aim to improve their overall defensive strategy and adaptability, making them a formidable opponent in their division.
Rising Stars and Future Potential
While seasoned seniors provide a solid foundation, the addition of freshman Jake Roveda brings new energy and potential into the mix. His size and athleticism are already catching the eyes of the coaching staff, and he is expected to contribute immediately. “If he can reach his potential, who knows how far we can go?” Sacco remarked on the freshman’s capabilities.
Transitioning to a four-man front defense this season will allow New Egypt to fully leverage their experienced lineup while integrating newcomers, enhancing their game strategy and adaptability against diverse offensive challenges.

With higher expectations and ambitions, the Warriors are looking to assert themselves in the C South Division, competing against familiar rivals like Point Pleasant Beach and larger schools such as Freehold Boro and Lakewood. Both coaches emphasize the importance of having athletes who are competitive year-round, contributing to a winning culture.
