Dreyfus explained, “The tomb of Psusennes I was discovered intact, maintaining the original placement of the artifacts. This gold covering, not only a beautiful work of art, symbolizes what he would need for a safe passage into the afterlife.” This insight into burial practices provides context to the ancient Egyptians’ beliefs regarding life after death.

When asked why San Francisco was chosen as the inaugural home for this exhibition, Fathi highlighted the museum’s longstanding relationship with Egypt. Currently, there are approximately 50 American missions actively working in Egypt, focusing on excavation and restoration efforts, further solidifying the bond between the two nations.
