SAHA 2026 Highlights Türkiye’s Growing Defense Sector with Innovative Combat Systems and Multibillion-Dollar Agreements

The SAHA International Defense and Aerospace Exhibition 2026 took place in Türkiye, effectively uniting leading defense manufacturers to display groundbreaking innovations while facilitating defense agreements totaling billions of dollars. This event highlights Türkiye’s increasing stature in global defense and aerospace sectors.

Innovative Products Unveiled

During the five-day SAHA 2026 exhibition held in Istanbul, approximately 1,700 companies from over 120 countries showcased their latest technological advancements. One of the standout moments was when ASELSAN, Türkiye’s defense powerhouse, introduced its first kamikaze autonomous underwater vehicle, KILIC, and the kamikaze unmanned surface vehicle, TUFAN. Both innovations represent significant advancements in naval warfare capabilities. ASELSAN also presented the FULMAR 500A, a radar system designed for integration with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and manned patrol aircraft, and various electronic warfare systems aimed at providing the Steel Dome with enhanced operational capabilities.

Baykar, another prominent Turkish UAV manufacturer, unveiled the K2 Kamikaze UAV along with smart loitering munitions Mizrak and Sivrisinek. In addition, STM highlighted its innovative kamikaze UAV system, KUZGUN, capable of operating over 1,000 kilometers and featuring a high-explosive payload. STM also introduced YAKTU KIDA, a fast, low-profile unmanned surface vehicle designed to revolutionize naval combat dynamics.

ROKETSAN, a leader in rocket and missile technology, showcased new products such as NESTER and CIRIT, aimed at countering UAV threats. BMC displayed the PAMIR 4×4 personnel and cargo carrier, engineered based on real battlefield experiences for asymmetric warfare conditions. Additionally, Meteksan Defence unveiled the National Synthetic Aperture Sonar, significantly improving underwater imaging capabilities.

Strategic Defense Agreements

The SAHA 2026 exhibition served not just as a platform for showcasing innovations but also as a key venue for signing major defense contracts. Companies inked agreements worth billions, significantly enhancing Türkiye’s defense landscape. Notably, Sefine Shipyard and Canada’s Kraken Robotics entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding focused on seabed warfare technologies.

The Turkish Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB) also facilitated numerous agreements aimed at boosting local defense manufacturing. Contracts included the procurement of the Rotary Wing Mini Cargo UAV and amendments related to the Turkish turbofan jet engine TF35000’s subsystems. In a major collaboration, ASELSAN and Indonesian authorities established contracts that will see the integration of Turkish technologies into the Indonesian military.

In another pivotal agreement, Baykar and Indonesia’s PT Republik Aero Dirgantara signed a framework agreement for the Bayraktar KIZILELMA Unmanned Fighter Aircraft, kicking off a significant international partnership. Additionally, Turkish Aerospace Industries collaborated with TEI for the procurement of 100 turbodiesel engines, which will be used across various platforms, enhancing Türkiye’s indigenous defense capabilities.

Future Implications for Türkiye’s Defense Sector

The outcomes of the SAHA International Defense and Aerospace Exhibition signify a bright future for Türkiye’s defense sector. As more companies collaborate domestically and internationally, the overall competency in defense manufacturing, innovation, and strategic alliances will likely strengthen. The integration of advanced technologies not only boosts Türkiye’s defense capabilities but also positions it as a formidable player in the global defense market.

In essence, the SAHA 2026 exhibition underscored a transformative chapter for Türkiye’s defense sector, marked by groundbreaking products and significant international partnerships. As nations increasingly prioritize defense enhancements, Türkiye’s efforts at events like SAHA signal its readiness to meet both domestic and global defense challenges effectively.
