Qatar Set to Launch Its First Electric Vehicle Factory through JTA’s Collaboration with UK’s WATT

JTA International Investment Holding and WATT Electric Vehicle Company have joined forces to create Qatar’s first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility. This strategic partnership aims to bridge advanced automotive engineering from the UK with local production capabilities in Qatar, fostering not only domestic demand for EVs but also exporting to the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

Partnership Overview

The collaboration between JTA International Investment Holding, based in Doha, and WATT Electric Vehicle Company from Cornwall, UK, signifies a transformative step for the Gulf region. On August 13, 2026, the two companies publicly announced their partnership, which focuses on designing and manufacturing a new line of electric vehicles specifically tailored for the regional market. This venture stems from extensive planning and discussions held in both London and Doha, ensuring a comprehensive approach to meet local needs.

Manufacturing and Engineering Insights

Under this partnership, the vehicles will employ WATT’s innovative PACES platform, allowing for rapid development and production in Qatar while retaining high standards of engineering excellence from the UK. The aim is to establish a “Made in Qatar” brand, serving initial production for the domestic market with the potential for expansion into the GCC and beyond. Dr. Amir Ali Salemi Zadeh, founder and CEO of JTA, emphasized the project’s goal to cultivate long-term industrial capacity within Qatar, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to advanced manufacturing practices.

Supporting Economic Goals

This venture aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, the country’s strategic initiative for economic diversification. Salemi Zadeh noted that the project intends to accelerate technology transfer and bolster local manufacturing while generating skilled job opportunities. This partnership not only commits to environmental sustainability through electric vehicle production but also aims to enhance the technological landscape of the region, positioning Qatar as a noteworthy player in the automotive industry.

Innovative Engineering and Future Prospects

WATT’s PACES platform, recognized for its innovative design, won the Innovation Award at the Autocar Awards 2026, highlighting its effectiveness in reducing development costs and time. Neil Yates, co-founder and CEO of WATT, pointed out that the adaptation of vehicles will consider the region’s unique climate challenges, ensuring optimal thermal management and battery performance for harsh temperatures. This thoughtful engineering approach aims to meet the expectations of local customers and enhance user experience throughout the GCC.

As this partnership progresses, both companies are committed to strengthening regional supply chains and enhancing workforce training in Qatar. By laying the groundwork for this factory and future vehicle programs, JTA and WATT intend to merge advanced engineering capabilities with localized manufacturing, ultimately contributing to Qatar’s evolving automotive landscape. Together, they are poised to leave a significant mark on the electric vehicle sector, reflecting both modern technology and cultural relevance in the Gulf region.
