Turkey anticipates swift execution of Development Road Project with Iraq, says Parliament Speaker.

Türkiye’s parliament speaker expressed optimism on Tuesday regarding the swift activation of the Development Road Project, which serves as a vital link between Iraq and Türkiye. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth for both nations and the surrounding areas.

Importance of the Development Road Project

Numan Kurtulmus shared his insights during a joint press conference in Ankara with Iraq’s parliamentary speaker, Haibat al-Halbousi. He emphasized that the Development Road Project is critical for ensuring seamless connectivity. “I envision the project becoming a fully operational and visible entity at the earliest opportunity,” he stated. The envisioned corridor aims to foster economic integration between Asia and Europe, connecting economies via Iraq and Türkiye. Turkish officials indicated that this strategic trade route will span approximately 1,200 kilometers (about 745.65 miles), beginning at Iraq’s Grand Faw Port and extending into Europe.

Kurtulmus echoed the importance of collaboration between the two nations, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing the project. “Both sides are dedicated to expediting the process, ensuring significant mutual benefits under the win-win principle,” he noted. The project not only holds economic potential; it is also seen as a means to unite diverse cultures and communities throughout the region. “This initiative will help bridge the divides that have historically separated us, enhancing its overall value,” Kurtulmus added.

The Broader Impact of Connectivity

Beyond economic advancements, the Development Road Project is expected to foster cultural and social exchanges. Kurtulmus emphasized the role of the initiative in connecting different peoples and cities, promoting unity across the region. He envisions a future where communities can easily interact, share ideas, and collaborate, ultimately enriching the tapestry of cultural experiences.

The initiative reflects a cooperative spirit between Türkiye and Iraq, where both nations stand to gain from the fruits of their collaboration. The project is not merely a physical route; it’s a pathway towards a more integrated and prosperous future for the entire region.

Terrorism and Regional Stability

In addition to economic discussions, Kurtulmus addressed Türkiye’s broader strategy in combating terrorism that extends beyond its borders. He articulated hope that the “Terror-Free Türkiye” initiative would have a positive effect throughout the region, leading to a safer environment for all, including Iraqi citizens. The importance of forthcoming actions, particularly the plans for armed and militia groups in Iraq to relinquish their weapons to the Iraqi central government, was also stressed during the conference.

Kurtulmus underscored the significance of these developments, asserting that they are crucial for the stability of Iraq and, by extension, the entire region. “We aspire to see our Iraqi brothers and sisters free from the clutches of terrorism at the earliest,” he concluded.

In summary, the Development Road Project stands as a beacon of hope for enhanced connectivity, cultural unity, and regional stability. Its successful implementation is not only expected to yield significant economic benefits but also to strengthen the bonds between Türkiye and Iraq, fostering a collaborative environment for future generations.
