Flensburg Technology Systems (FTS), in conjunction with the German Special Forces Command (KSK), unveiled the innovative light airborne combat vehicle called “TAHR” during the opening ceremony of the 10th KSK Defence Symposium held in Altensteig-Wart, Germany. The vehicle was presented to Brigadier General Andreas Kühne, the Commander of the Special Forces Command, showcasing a significant milestone in military technology.
Two Versatile Variants
The TAHR is available in two configurations: the light airborne combat vehicle and the light airborne support vehicle. Both variants are engineered on a robust, all-terrain platform that has already proven its reliability in combat and is actively deployed. This adaptability was developed in response to the specific mission needs of the KSK, allowing for enhanced operational effectiveness in diverse environments.
Enhanced Combat Readiness
Featuring an open and integrated design, the TAHR provides operators with a panoramic view of their surroundings while facilitating the integration of various weapon systems. The vehicle’s flexible architecture allows two units to be transported within a CH-47 Chinook helicopter simultaneously. This capability is crucial for the KSK, as it enables rapid deployment and full combat readiness upon landing, meeting a foundational requirement for special operations.
Strategic Partnerships and Future Plans
The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) entered into a framework agreement with FTS in October 2025 for the delivery of up to 200 units. The timely unveiling of the first pre-series vehicle exemplifies the focused collaboration between the German-Israeli joint venture FTS and the KSK, mirroring their commitment to advancing national defense capabilities.
Brigadier General Andreas Kühne expressed the importance of the TAHR in supporting the KSK’s varied mission profile. He emphasized that the vehicle offers a solution tailored to diverse operational terrains and conditions, reinforcing the capabilities required for special forces operations.
Commitment to Collaborative Defense Solutions
Guy Bar Lev, CEO of IAI, highlighted Germany as a strategic partner in developing defense capabilities. He noted that the collaboration covers various domains including air, maritime, and land, and is based on a shared commitment to technological innovation and industrial collaboration. This partnership aims to address emerging security challenges together in the coming years.
Finally, Jörg Kamper, Managing Director of FTS, expressed pride in contributing to the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr and the KSK with the early presentation of the pre-series vehicle. He acknowledged the importance of teamwork in achieving this milestone, thanking both the KSK and BAAINBw for their trust and collaboration in the project’s initial phase. The successful unveiling of the TAHR represents a pivotal step towards a sustainable defense solution.
