This discussion took place during the third session of the Monitoring Mechanism of the Qatar-Singapore Joint High-Level Committee held in Doha.

During the meeting, co-chaired by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan Al-Muraikhi, and Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, the nations collectively underscored the necessity for safe and uninterrupted movement of ships and aircraft through the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway plays a crucial role in global trade, serving as a transit route for a significant percentage of the world’s oil shipments. Additionally, Qatar’s acceptance as a sectoral dialogue partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in July was celebrated. The countries look forward to further strengthening these ties, particularly through upcoming meetings, such as the ASEAN-GCC foreign ministers’ assembly scheduled to occur alongside the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.
