Kapsch TrafficCom is making significant strides in traffic management and tolling systems, recently securing major contracts in New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. Innovative Traffic Management in New Zealand

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has implemented Kapsch’s Dynac V17 system at the Auckland Traffic Operations Centre. This innovative solution is touted as the foundational element of the country’s national traffic management framework. The Dynac V17 integrates a vast array of infrastructure, including 18,500 kilometers of roads and highways, seven tunnels, and the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Moreover, it links to around 150,000 field devices—ranging from cameras and traffic sensors to variable message signs and other roadside technologies. This extensive connectivity allows NZTA operators to maintain a real-time comprehensive view of the traffic network. Consequently, traffic operators can quickly react to fluctuations in road conditions, including congestions, accidents, or other disruptions, enhancing public safety and mobility.

As part of a broader initiative, the deployment of the Dynac V17 is not limited to Auckland. Plans are in place to extend this advanced traffic management system to other regions, with additional traffic operation centers in Wellington and the Lyttleton Tunnel near Christchurch slated for upgrades. Kapsch TrafficCom will oversee system maintenance and security, while NZTA will handle daily operational duties through its trained traffic operators.

Tolling Advancements in the UAE

In the United Arab Emirates, Kapsch has been awarded a contract for the operation and maintenance of an advanced free-flow truck tolling system in Ras Al Khaimah, effective until 2029. This cutting-edge tolling solution utilizes a combination of roadside gantries, radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. These components work together with sophisticated back-office software to process approximately one million toll transactions annually.

The tolling system is specifically designed to withstand the rigors of extreme heat, with operating capacities that exceed 40 degrees Celsius, and is equipped to handle the challenging conditions posed by the desert environment, including frequent sandstorms. This reliability is crucial for maintaining an efficient transport system in Ras Al Khaimah, ensuring that operations run smoothly regardless of external factors.
