Saudi Arabia is often overlooked when it comes to automotive manufacturing, but Ceer, the nation’s first home-grown carmaker, aims to change that perception. With its introduction of two groundbreaking vehicles, the Exobot sedan and SUV, the company is showing it means business in the electric vehicle (EV) market. Targeting a 2027 launch, Ceer is poised to make waves in the global automotive landscape.
Introducing the Exobot Models
The Exobot sedan and SUV bring an impressive combination of power and innovative design. Both vehicles are equipped with a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system that generates a remarkable 850 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. This incredible setup allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in merely 2.6 seconds, while the SUV completes the same task in just 2.9 seconds. A 112-kWh battery powers these models, and thanks to an 800-volt architecture, drivers can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in under half an hour. The range is estimated at 416 miles for the sedan and 348 miles for the SUV, although these figures are based on the optimistic NEDC testing cycle.
Inside, Ceer has not held back on luxury either. The vehicles will feature a futuristic 48-inch 8K display that stretches seamlessly across the dashboard, offering a tech-savvy experience for users. True to its dramatic exterior design, the Exobot also boasts what Ceer calls “Shahin Wing Doors,” a unique gullwing opening system that offers both style and accessibility.
A Global Collaborative Effort
Although marketed as a domestically developed product, it’s important to note that Ceer benefits greatly from international expertise. The company is a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Foxconn, a major global manufacturer. As part of their collaboration, Foxconn is responsible for developing the electrical architecture of the vehicles, while Ceer has secured licenses for key components from the automotive giant, BMW.
Another notable player in this venture is Hyundai Transys, which will provide Ceer with integrated electric drive systems starting in 2027. These drive units will combine the motor, inverter, and reduction gear into one comprehensive package, ensuring optimal efficiency and performance. Notably, Ceer plans to manufacture these vehicles at its own facility in King Abdullah Economic City, showcasing its commitment to building a homegrown automotive industry.
Plans for Future Models
Ceer has ambitious plans that extend beyond the Exobot. The firm aims to roll out a total of seven models by 2030, diversifying its lineup to include smaller vehicles and options with alternative powertrains. While pricing details are yet to be disclosed, the initial First Edition Exobot is expected to set the stage for future customizable versions, like the Exobot Plus.
