The recent graduation event for the fourth cohort of the Capacity Building Program for Social Care Professionals showcased the partnership between the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD). With 98 graduates in attendance, the ceremony emphasized commitment to enhancing social services in the emirate.
Notable Attendance at the Graduation Ceremony
The graduation ceremony, held at The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, featured distinguished guests such as His Excellency Mazen Jaber Al Dahmani, the Executive Director of Corporate Shared Services at DCD, and Prof. Mohamed Bin Huwaidin, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at UAEU. Their presence underscored the significance of the event, which also saw participation from officials and representatives from various organizations involved in the program.
The fourth cohort consisted of 75 graduates from the Professional Diploma in Social Work Practice Skills and 23 graduates from the Professional Diploma in School Counselling. Together, these individuals represented a diverse range of government and private entities within Abu Dhabi, reflecting the program’s extensive reach and commitment to enhancing professional skills across the social sector.
A Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Development
This initiative is part of a strategic alliance between UAEU and DCD, reflecting Abu Dhabi’s dedication to investing in its people. By equipping social sector professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge, the program aims to raise the quality of social services provided to the community. Prof. Bin Huwaidin highlighted the initiative as a vital investment in national talent, emphasizing that nurturing local capabilities is essential for sustainable development.
At the ceremony, he noted, “National development cannot progress without investing in our people. Our programs prepare specialists who align with our leadership’s vision, which places human capital at the forefront of growth.” He articulated the importance of social work and counselling professions in addressing community needs, underscoring the need for ongoing professional development in these fields.
The Importance of Qualified Social Care Professionals
Mubarak Al Ameri, Executive Director of the Social Licensing and Control Sector at DCD, reinforced the concept that effective social services begin with well-qualified professionals. He pointed out that skilled practitioners not only deliver services, but they also understand the nuances of individual and family needs. This understanding allows them to adapt to social changes while delivering impactful interventions and services.
Al Ameri stated, “The quality of the social sector relies heavily on the competence of its professionals. Investing in these individuals enhances our community’s resilience today and prepares us for future challenges.” The diverse participation in the program, representing various governmental and private sectors, illustrates the commitment to building a robust social care environment.
Building a Legacy of Qualified Professionals
Since its inception in 2022, the Capacity Building Program has successfully graduated 381 social care professionals over four cohorts. This accomplishment highlights DCD’s ongoing effort to cultivate qualified national talent that can effectively improve the quality of social services in the emirate.
As the graduation ceremony came to a close, the graduates were recognized for their achievements, receiving certificates that symbolize their dedication and hard work throughout the program.
