Qatar Airways increases flight frequencies to Cape Town

As Qatar Airways enhances its operations following disruptions due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, the airline has announced an increase in its flight services to Cape Town, a popular destination for travelers. Starting June 16, 2026, Qatar Airways will expand its offerings from seven to up to 10 flights per week between Cape Town International Airport and Hamad International Airport in Doha.

Expanded Flight Services to Cape Town

The increase in flight frequency to Cape Town is a strategic move to bolster the airline’s presence in the region. With increased capacity, travelers will benefit from more flexible options for onward journeys across Qatar Airways’ extensive global network, especially to destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This decision underscores Cape Town’s significance as a high-demand hub in Qatar Airways’ international operations.

Wider Enhancements Across Africa

The expansion to Cape Town is part of a more extensive initiative by Qatar Airways to enhance its network throughout Africa. The airline has plans to ramp up services by increasing flight frequencies, restarting suspended routes, and introducing new destinations. By mid-June, Qatar Airways aims to operate more than 150 routes across the globe, reflecting its commitment to service recovery and growth in various markets.

Travelers in Africa will see improved connectivity as Qatar Airways increases flight frequencies on several routes. For instance, service from Cape Town to Alexandria will rise from three times a week to seven, while Cairo will see an increase from 28 to 35 weekly flights. Additionally, flights to Dar es Salaam and the Lusaka-Harare route will both move from three and five weekly flights up to seven. The service from Maputo to Durban is also set to expand, reflecting the airline’s focus on enhancing connectivity within the continent.

New Routes and Services on the Horizon

In addition to the upgrades in flight frequencies, Qatar Airways will resume four weekly flights to Seychelles and two weekly flights to Kigali beginning June 16. The airline will also launch daily flights to Marrakesh starting July 1 and will introduce a new service to Port Sudan on July 2, operating three times a week. These additions highlight the airline’s ongoing commitment to expanding travel options for its customers in Africa and beyond.

Travelers in Cape Town can rejoice, as the airline’s plans coincide with other exciting news for the region. Starting in October, Airlink will launch a direct flight route from Cape Town to Zanzibar, allowing for a seamless travel experience without the need for a layover in Johannesburg. This new route presents a fantastic opportunity for those looking to explore the stunning beaches of Zanzibar directly from Cape Town.

Drawing attention to these developments, it’s clear that Qatar Airways’ growth strategy and the recent addition of direct flight options contribute significantly to improving travel choices for South Africans and international visitors alike. Whether aiming for a European adventure, a trip to Asia, or a relaxing beach getaway, this increase in connectivity is encouraging news for all travelers.
