Mitsubishi Sees 123% Growth While Market Declines by 15.1% – Top Selling Cars Report

In August 2026, new car sales in the United Arab Emirates faced a significant decline, marking a decrease of 15.1% year-on-year, totaling just 23,066 units sold. This downward trend has resulted in a total year-to-date sales volume of 160,210, reflecting a stark 23.2% drop. Despite these challenges, certain brands managed to stand out in the competitive automotive market.

Market Leaders and Trends

Toyota continues to dominate the UAE automotive landscape, maintaining a considerable 21% market share despite experiencing a steep 31% decline in sales. Mitsubishi, however, defies the odds with a remarkable 123% increase, positioning itself firmly behind Toyota, while Nissan struggled with a 25.9% drop. Jetour managed to sustain a slight growth of 2.6%, securing the fourth spot, followed by the newcomer BYD, which performed exceptionally well by capturing 4.8% of the market.

Top-Performing Models

In terms of individual models, the Mitsubishi Outlander emerged as the standout performer, achieving an impressive 623% growth and securing the top position with an 8.9% market share. This success has allowed it to maintain a lead over the Toyota Hilux, which saw a modest decline of 6.7%. Meanwhile, the Nissan Patrol, which has been the year-to-date leader, found itself in third place with a market share of 7%. The Jetour T2 and Toyota Land Cruiser, despite facing significant drops in sales, followed closely in the rankings. Remarkably, the Land Rover Defender surged by an astounding 105.1%, climbing to the sixth position compared to its 14th ranking in previous months.

The newly released Jetour G700 and Mitsubishi Destinator made impressive debut appearances in the top 10, landing the eighth and ninth positions, respectively. Additionally, the MG 3 saw a year-on-year sales increase of 5.4%, securing its place as the 10th best-selling model in the UAE.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

Despite an overall market decline, the performance of brands like Mitsubishi highlights resilience and the ability to adapt amidst challenging circumstances. As consumer preferences shift and new automotive innovations, such as electric vehicles, continue to emerge, the competitive landscape is expected to evolve further. Industry stakeholders should keep a close eye on how brands navigate these market shifts as they position themselves for future growth.

The data trends from August 2026 provide valuable insights into the automotive industry in the UAE, and it’s crucial for manufacturers and marketers to harness this information for strategic planning. Continued monitoring and adaptation will be key in this fluctuating market environment.
