Qatar and UNCTAD to Co-Host Global Investment Forum on October 25

Doha will host the ninth edition of the World Investment Forum from October 25 to 27, a collaborative effort between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This year’s forum is themed “Investing in the Future” and promises to be a significant platform for global investment dialogues.

High-Level Participation and Objectives

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced the event will gather influential figures, including ministers, top government officials, CEOs, business leaders, investors, and representatives from international organizations and financial institutions. This diverse assembly aims to foster partnerships, enhance Qatar’s economic competitiveness, and promote the private sector. MoCI emphasizes that its engagement in the forum aligns with its mission to stimulate economic diversification and improve the investment climate in Qatar.

Thematic Discussions and Significant Focus Areas

The forum will address the ramifications of economic fragmentation and technological progress on investment flows and capital deployment. It aims to explore strategies to maximize investment benefits and enhance its role in sustainable development and economic resilience. Notably, the program includes over 70 high-level sessions featuring 211 speakers across seven thematic tracks. These tracks will cover essential sectors, including artificial intelligence, renewable energy, sustainable finance, infrastructure, and emerging investment fields like the space economy.

Plenary sessions and ministerial roundtables will facilitate discussions among governments, investors, and business leaders. Events like the Global Dialogue on Sustainable Stock Exchanges and specialized sessions on investment policies and entrepreneurship are also a highlight of the agenda.

Investment Opportunities in the Gulf Region

One key session will focus on “The Future of Investment in the Gulf Region,” organized in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This session will convene ministers and investment authorities from GCC countries to explore promising investment avenues, leverage economic integration, and enhance the region’s global investment stature.

The forum’s timing is crucial, considering the recent geopolitical events impacting global trade, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, which have raised costs and pressured supply chains. These developments underline the necessity of diversifying trade routes and enhancing international collaboration to manage the ripple effects on global economics.

Qatar’s Role as a Regional Investment Hub

This forum is pivotal as it marks the return of the World Investment Forum to Qatar after 14 years since it last hosted the event in 2012. By reinforcing its role as a global business and investment nexus, Qatar aims to attract high-quality investments and expand its partnerships with the international community. The overarching goal is to consolidate Qatar’s position as a leader in fostering a vibrant economic ecosystem that benefits various stakeholders.

In summary, Doha’s hosting of the World Investment Forum presents a valuable opportunity for networking, learning, and collaboration among key players in the investment landscape, while revealing critical trends and strategies that will influence the future of global investment.
