Address by the UAE Minister of State during the General Debate at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stands at a pivotal moment in a rapidly changing world, marked by considerable challenges and stark divisions. As we navigate this complex landscape, the UAE remains committed to transforming obstacles into opportunities through a straightforward vision and steadfast determination. Our goal is to foster peace, development, and prosperity not only for our people but also for the wider region and the global community.

Commitment to Diplomacy and Peaceful Solutions

Central to our approach is an unwavering commitment to diplomacy, dialogue, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. The UAE firmly rejects the use of force and coercive measures, adhering to respect for international law, the sovereignty of states, and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter. As the UAE continues to advocate for the peaceful resolution of territorial disputes, such as the ongoing occupation of three Emirati islands by Iran, we emphasize our preference for negotiations and legal recourse through institutions like the International Court of Justice. The UAE’s dedication to freedom of navigation has also become increasingly critical in addressing security threats in the region, reinforcing our stance on protecting trade and energy routes vital to global stability.

Advocating for Global Stability

The UAE’s commitment extends to various global crises, including efforts to achieve a sustainable political resolution in Yemen, Libya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We stress the importance of a civilian-led political process in Sudan, aimed at addressing the catastrophic humanitarian situation there. It is essential that the future of Sudan is determined solely by its people, free from external manipulations. In Gaza, the UAE was one of the earliest supporters of international frameworks designed to end violence and establish long-lasting peace, emphasizing the necessity of a two-state solution for the conflict with Israel. Our extensive humanitarian aid and development projects are testaments to our enduring commitment to the Palestinian people.

Investment in Human Potential and Global Partnerships

As the UAE advances on multiple fronts, our focus remains on empowering human capital and fostering a sustainable knowledge-based economy. Investment in artificial intelligence, healthcare, and education is a top priority, alongside maintaining robust energy leadership that balances current needs with future demands. As we prepare to co-host significant international events, such as the UN Water Conference alongside Senegal, we recognize the vital importance of cooperative action to address global challenges like water scarcity and climate change.

Moreover, our role as a global hub continues to grow, connecting markets and expanding trade opportunities through comprehensive economic partnerships with 38 nations. We aspire to solidify our position as a trusted partner, focusing on mutual respect and strategic cooperation, particularly with Global South nations and Africa.

Vision for a Peaceful and Prosperous Future

Looking to the future, the United Arab Emirates is committed to a path defined by moderation and cooperation. We reject extremism and violence in all forms, channeling our efforts towards building a society based on tolerance and inclusion. The empowerment of women and youth is a cornerstone of our progress, ensuring diverse voices contribute meaningfully to our national narrative.

As we advance our international partnerships and address humanitarian concerns, the UAE remains devoted to collective action aimed at creating a safer, more prosperous world. We invite our global counterparts to join us in building a cooperative framework that promotes stability and peace, steering away from division and conflict. Together, we can cultivate a brighter future, one grounded in shared opportunities and respect for all.
