El-Sisi Announces 20 Agreements from Asian Tour, Urges Quick Action on Implementation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi recently completed a fruitful Asian tour, securing approximately 20 agreements and memoranda aimed at enhancing Egypt’s international partnerships. This trip, spanning from October 6 to 11, included significant visits to South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Following his return on October 12, El-Sisi emphasized the importance of moving rapidly to transform these agreements into actionable projects.

Reinforcing Egypt’s Global Partnerships

El-Sisi characterized the Asian tour as a triumph, showcasing Egypt’s balanced and moderate foreign policy. He pointed out that the warm reception he received underscored a growing international respect for the country and its leadership. The president highlighted Egypt’s investment potential, stable infrastructure, and conducive business environment as key factors driving interest from these Asian nations in expanding bilateral cooperation.

During the visit to South Korea, the two nations established a strategic partnership focused on political, defense, and economic cooperation. This collaboration resulted in the signing of 12 agreements that encompass various sectors, including trade, energy, maritime issues, education, and social security. These new agreements not only foster deeper ties but also open up avenues for mutual economic growth.

Enhancing Economic Collaboration with Southeast Asia

In Malaysia, El-Sisi and his counterparts exchanged four memoranda related to investment, tourism, higher education, and women’s empowerment. This reflects Egypt’s commitment to diversifying its economic partnerships and seeking mutual benefits. The president emphasized the necessity of more balanced trade relationships, aiming for equitable partnerships that can foster development in both regions.

The tour concluded in Indonesia, where El-Sisi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced ambitious plans to elevate bilateral trade to USD 5 billion by 2030. The two leaders also formalized additional agreements covering maritime affairs, statistics sharing, strategic partnership action plans, and visa exemptions for specific passport holders. This comprehensive approach reveals the commitment from both nations to enhance their cooperative frameworks.

Future Prospects and Economic Stability

Throughout his discussions in South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia, El-Sisi explored potential collaborations in sectors like petrochemicals, automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture, fisheries, and nuclear power. Notably, he referenced South Korea’s involvement in projects at the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant, indicating a solid groundwork for future advancements.

Emphasizing the need for prompt execution of the agreements, El-Sisi urged relevant Egyptian authorities to ensure these understandings yield tangible results. He reiterated Egypt’s readiness to foster investments from these nations, including the facilitation of joint projects between public and private sectors.

In closing, El-Sisi recognized the resilience and dedication of the Egyptian people, attributing the nation’s stability to their hard work amidst ongoing economic challenges since 2011. He expressed gratitude toward the foreign leaders who welcomed him and commended the accompanying delegation, highlighting a collective hope that the agreements established during this tour will soon materialize into impactful projects for Egypt’s future.
