Visit Qatar, in cooperation with the Qatar Challenge Racing Club (Samla), has unveiled the second edition of the Samla International Race, inviting participants from around the globe to register. This collaboration marks the beginning of a three-year strategic alliance that extends from 2027 to 2029, aimed at promoting sports tourism in Qatar.

Event Details and Challenges

Scheduled for January 23, 2027, the race will take place between Sealine and Khor Al Adaid, presenting a substantial challenge for those looking to test their endurance and resilience. The Samla International Race features a grueling series of four endurance events—swimming, off-road cycling, running, and kayaking—designed to challenge even the most seasoned athletes. The race kicks off with a 3-kilometer swim, transitioning into a 21-kilometer run.

Athletes will face a demanding 22-kilometer off-road cycling leg, followed by a 4-kilometer kayaking segment. The race does not let up; participants will cycle another 22 kilometers off-road before completing the event with a final 28-kilometer run. Overall, this ambitious race spans a total distance of 100 kilometers, making it one of Qatar’s most formidable endurance challenges.

A Vision for International Sports Tourism

Ahmad Al Binali, Director of Festivals and Events at Visit Qatar, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this long-term partnership. “We are excited to continue our collaboration with the Qatar Challenge Racing Club,” he stated. “Our goal is to elevate the Samla International Race’s profile on the international sporting scene and establish Qatar as a premier destination for sports tourism. This race will integrate sport and tourism, allowing visitors to engage with the diverse experiences that Qatar has to offer.”

President of the Qatar Challenge Racing Club, Azzam Abdulaziz Al Mannai, echoed this sentiment. He emphasized that the race not only represents a key milestone for the organization but also showcases Qatar’s stunning natural landscapes. “Through our partnership, we aim to create an integrated sports and tourism platform, bringing together endurance and adventure while hosting athletes from around the world,” he remarked. This vision aims to cultivate a sustainable international event that underscores Qatar’s leadership in both sports and tourism.

Prize Structure and Participation Incentives

To encourage a spirited competition, the organizing committee has established an impressive prize pool totaling USD 600,000. The male and female winners will each receive USD 100,000, while second and third place will net USD 60,000 and USD 40,000, respectively. The athletes who finish from fourth to tenth will be rewarded with prizes ranging from USD 20,000 to USD 8,000, depending on their final standings. These monetary incentives not only honor the competitors but also motivate them to excel in one of the region’s toughest races.

Impact on Qatar’s Sports Landscape

The Samla International Race is set to enrich Qatar’s annual sporting calendar, aligning with the country’s ambition to establish itself as a global hub for sporting excellence. As excitement builds for this unique challenge, the event promises to showcase both the athletic prowess of its participants and the rich cultural experiences that Qatar has to offer. This multifaceted approach to sporting events strengthens Qatar’s position on the international stage while simultaneously boosting its tourism sector.
