Egypt calls for complete execution of Gaza peace initiative one year post-Sharm El-Sheikh summit.

Egypt is taking significant steps to advocate for the full execution of a peace plan for Gaza, initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump, as the first anniversary of the pivotal Sharm El-Sheikh summit approaches. The summit, which saw President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi co-chair alongside global leaders, marked a vital milestone in efforts to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Reinforcing Support for the Peace Plan

In a recent communique, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed unwavering backing for the implementation of Trump’s comprehensive Gaza peace initiative. The ministry emphasized the importance of building on the momentum created during the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, which played a critical role in fostering diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in the Middle East.

Cairo has committed to close collaboration with both the U.S. and its regional and international allies to ensure the full realization of the peace plan. This includes maintaining the ceasefire, facilitating continuous humanitarian aid access, and ensuring Israel’s complete withdrawal from Gaza. Additionally, the Ministry outlined the necessity for advancing arrangements for subsequent phases and commencing early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

A Two-State Solution as a Path Forward

The statement issued by the Ministry highlighted the urgent need to utilize the opportunity presented by Trump’s plan to initiate a serious political dialogue that addresses the underlying issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Egypt believes that a robust process could help prevent future cycles of violence while fostering a comprehensive and just regional peace based on a two-state solution.

The establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders established on June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is seen as crucial for fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people. Such a settlement is anticipated to enhance security and stability for all nations in the region.

Continued Humanitarian Efforts and Regional Mediation

Egypt remains at the forefront of diplomacy aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict, collaborating closely with entities such as Qatar, the United States, and Türkiye. The nation’s proactive approach has included advocating for the complete implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025, facilitating humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, and initiating reconstruction activities without delay.

The Egyptian government has also taken significant steps to manage humanitarian crises by providing medical treatment to wounded Palestinians in its hospitals and coordinating relief shipments through the Egyptian Red Crescent. Despite facing logistical challenges, Egypt has successfully delivered over one million tons of aid into Gaza since the war’s inception in 2023.

Challenges and Obstacles to Peace

Nevertheless, the implementation of the ceasefire agreement continues to face significant setbacks, particularly due to ongoing Israeli military operations and restrictions that undermine efforts to establish lasting peace. Reports have surfaced indicating over 5,100 violations of the ceasefire by Israeli forces, resulting in substantial casualties and further complicating the situation on the ground.

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens, with extensive devastation and widespread displacement among Palestinians, Egypt reaffirms that the ceasefire must lead to a comprehensive solution that addresses the Palestinian cause. The nation emphasizes the urgency of ending the occupation, fully implementing the peace plan, and pursuing a credible political process aimed at achieving an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.
