Qatar is making significant strides in cultivating a workforce enriched with skilled women in various sectors, including business, education, healthcare, technology, and public service. However, expanding their access to leadership roles and decision-making opportunities remains a focal point for organizations aiming to foster inclusivity and gender equality.
Advancement Opportunities for Women
Jules Youssef, Managing Director for Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait at Great Place to Work Middle East, highlights the need for organizations to transform women’s participation into sustained advancement within the workplace. He emphasizes the importance of developing transparent career pathways that ensure equal access to growth opportunities for women across all sectors. This undertaking is crucial for building a workplace culture that nurtures talent irrespective of gender.
Recently, Great Place to Work Middle East unveiled its 2026 Best Workplaces for Women List, which celebrates organizations that establish high-trust environments where women feel respected, appreciated, and empowered to advance their careers. Notably, two companies from Qatar made the list: QIC Digital Hub, securing the 18th spot in the Medium category, and Marrybrown Qatar, which earned third place in the Small category. The rankings are reflective of employee insights collected via the Great Place to Work Trust Index survey, with a significant focus on the experiences of women in the workforce.
Positive Findings in Employee Surveys
According to Youssef, the feedback gathered reveals that 83.2 percent of employees believe people are treated fairly, regardless of gender, while 78.9 percent report having access to training and professional development. These statistics indicate that progress is being made, although there’s still a clear need for enhanced career development avenues and increased access to leadership roles for women.
Youssef points out that organizations proving to be successful in empowering women not only contribute to a just workplace but also gain a competitive edge that drives overall performance. He underscores various strategies that can be employed to improve women’s participation in leadership, including transparent criteria for promotions, flexible work arrangements, accountability from leadership, and structured mentoring programs.
Continual Improvement and Employee Analytics
The survey results indicate that 74.5 percent of respondents feel that their work-life balance is prioritized, while 75.3 percent believe their workplace fosters psychological and emotional health. Moreover, 73.8 percent feel involved in decision-making processes that impact their roles. These positive findings underscore the comprehensive need for ongoing evaluation and enhancement based on employee feedback and data analytics.
Youssef reaffirms the pivotal role of leadership in cultivating supportive workplace atmospheres. The Great Place to Work’s Great Leader Lens tool offers organizations valuable insights into leadership effectiveness and helps pinpoint specific areas that require improvement to foster trust and inclusivity within the workplace.
In conclusion, Qatar’s initiatives toward advancing women’s roles across sectors are evident and commendable. Yet, to sustain this momentum, organizations must commit to continuous improvement and tailored responses based on employee feedback. By prioritizing women’s empowerment in leadership and decision-making spaces, companies in Qatar can not only enhance workplace culture but also drive better organizational outcomes.
