UK engineering company Wood has secured a contract from China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) to undertake detailed design work for QatarEnergy’s Bul Hanine EPIC project, situated offshore in Qatar. This collaboration aims to enhance the project’s operational efficiency and longevity through innovative design solutions.
Optimizing Pipeline Designs
Wood’s mandate includes devising a comprehensive design tailored to the intricate pipeline network of the Bul Hanine field. The primary objective is to bolster production capacity while extending the lifespan of the assets. The project encompasses the design of 25 distinct pipelines. A significant aspect of this task involves ensuring safe interactions at points where these pipelines intersect with pre-existing infrastructure. Additionally, Wood will implement strategies to manage thermal expansion, safeguarding the long-term integrity of the pipeline systems. The company will also conduct crossing analyses for 15 umbilicals and two power cables to ensure seamless operations.
Building on Previous Success
This latest contract is a continuation of Wood’s previous work on the Bul Hanine project, where they successfully carried out preliminary front-end engineering and design (pre-FEED and FEED) stages directly for QatarEnergy. Their experience and insights gained during those phases will serve as a vital asset in the current undertaking. The synergy between Wood and COOEC is expected to expedite the realization of QatarEnergy’s goal to extend the operational life of the field and amplify production output from these essential, aging assets.
Collaborative Innovation for Enhanced Production
Gerry Traynor, the regional president for the Middle East, Africa, and Caspian at Wood, expressed optimism about the collaborative effort with COOEC. He highlighted that merging their respective strengths would not only speed up project timelines but also align with QatarEnergy’s aspirations to maximize output from the Bul Hanine field. This partnership exemplifies a commitment to utilizing innovative approaches that significantly enhance operational efficiencies.
In summary, the partnership between Wood and COOEC is positioned to play a crucial role in optimizing QatarEnergy’s Bul Hanine operations. By focusing on advanced design techniques and fostering collaboration, they aim to not only meet, but exceed production and longevity targets for the field. The industry eyes this project as a promising venture into the future of offshore energy production, setting a benchmark for similar projects globally.
