Colonel Promotions in the New York Army National Guard

Recently, the New York Army National Guard celebrated significant promotions, honoring distinguished servicemen for their dedicated service and exceptional leadership. Notably, Bradley Frank from West Valley has ascended to the rank of Brigadier General, while Josh Heimroth from Menands has been elevated to Colonel. These promotions reflect the commitment and skill displayed by both leaders in their military careers.

Brigadier General Bradley Frank’s Promotion

Bradley Frank, a veteran of the Iraq War, has been promoted to Brigadier General and appointed as the Deputy Commanding General of the 42nd Infantry Division, which is based in Troy. The promotion ceremony took place in Buffalo, presided over by Maj. Gen. Ray Shields, the state adjutant general. During the ceremony, Shields remarked on the gravity of Frank’s achievement, emphasizing the elite status of being one of only three Brigadier Generals among the 12,024 soldiers in the New York Army National Guard.

The historical lineage of the 42nd Infantry Division, also known as the “Rainbow Division,” dates back to World War I. With a commendable track record, the division has participated in major operations, including the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp during World War II. More recently, it commanded over 20,000 troops in Iraq, showcasing its capabilities in supporting military operations on a global scale. Frank’s responsibilities will center around logistics operations, sustainment, and the coordination of division support elements.

Colonel Josh Heimroth’s Advancement

Josh Heimroth, another distinguished veteran, has achieved the rank of Colonel during a ceremony held at the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham. Heimroth, who enlisted in the Army in 1997, currently serves as the Director of Military Personnel at Joint Force Headquarters. His role encompasses overseeing administrative support for over 12,000 soldiers statewide.

Heimroth’s journey in the military is marked by notable achievements. Initially enlisting as a cannon crewmember, he was commissioned as an officer in the Military Intelligence Corps in 2006. His previous assignments reflect a range of responsibilities, establishing him as a capable leader in various roles, including commander of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion. During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Shields praised Heimroth for his previous leadership roles, highlighting that he has excelled in some of the most demanding assignments within the state.

Acknowledgment of Service

During Frank’s promotion ceremony, a special recognition was also given to his wife, Krista Frank, who was awarded the Saint Joan of Arc Medallion for her years of service to military families and the community. Krista has provided vital support to the families of fallen soldiers since 2003 and has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her dedication. Her contributions exemplify the essential role that family members play in the military community.

Both Frank and Heimroth’s promotions not only signify personal achievements but also reflect the robust leadership present within the New York Army National Guard. As they take on their new roles, both leaders are expected to drive growth, foster collaboration, and maintain the high standards of duty that the organization embodies. Their continued success will undoubtedly inspire others in their ranks and solidify the legacy of service and dedication within the armed forces.
