Doha, Qatar, has recently witnessed the launch of the second edition of the Frame and Focus exhibition at the Al Hosh Gallery. Organized by the Tasweer Photography Festival, this showcase highlights the final works of twelve talented photographers who have successfully completed Tasweer’s renowned 14-week Frame and Focus Advanced Photography Course.
Celebrating Diverse Perspectives
Running until October 5, the exhibition displays a rich assortment of visual narratives, including documentary photography, portraiture, and conceptual art. Each piece is imbued with the unique cultural backgrounds and personal experiences of the photographers, offering intimate insights into community dynamics and contemporary life in Qatar. The display constitutes not merely an art exhibition but a vital exploration of the nuances of identity and belonging, reflecting the multifaceted experiences of each artist.

Khalifa Al Obaidly, the Director of Tasweer, emphasized that Frame and Focus embodies a broader vision for photography in Qatar and the surrounding region. “This initiative is designed to provide photographers with the exposure, support, and guidance they need to advance their craft and engage with new audiences,” he stated. By prioritizing artistic development and creating opportunities for dialogue and visibility, Tasweer is nurturing a more interconnected photographic community, paving the way for fresh narratives from the region. The program is conducted in collaboration with significant partners, including Qatar Preparatory School (QPS), The VII Foundation, and Al Hosh Gallery.
Alanoud Al Buainain, the Deputy Director of Image and Narrative Practices at Qatar Preparatory School, echoed this sentiment, remarking on the educational impact of Frame and Focus. She highlighted how structured guidance and creative experimentation enable photographers to cultivate their visual narratives. “The exhibition serves as a testament to the potential for artistic growth when photographers engage in reflective learning,” she explained. Co-Curation and Impact
The exhibition was co-curated by The VII Foundation and Abdulla Faisal Al Khalaf, who noted the significance of the diverse visual languages brought forth by this year’s participants. Ziyah Gafić, the Director of The VII Foundation, articulated the importance of storytelling as a fundamental human right, emphasizing the role of visual education as an act of resilience. “In an era marked by challenges and competing narratives, these artists infuse their work with empathy and depth, tackling themes of belonging, memory, and resilience,” he stated.
