A high-level delegation from the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has recently traveled to Syria to formalize a strategic partnership with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARCS) and to inaugurate a QRCS office in Damascus. This initiative is designed to enhance cooperative humanitarian efforts and broaden the scope of relief and development operations within Syria, building upon prior work conducted by QRCS in Türkiye.
Delegation Details and Their Objectives
The QRCS delegation was led by President Yousef bin Ali Al-Khater and included key members such as Treasurer Ebrahim Abdulla Ali Al-Abdulla, Acting Secretary-General Abdullah Sultan Al-Qattan, Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development Mohamed Bader Al-Sada, and Advisor to President Ramadan Al-Mousel. Upon arriving at SARCS headquarters, they were welcomed by its President, Dr. Mohamed Hazem Baqleh, and Secretary-General Raya Ramadan, among other officials. Their discussions primarily focused on enhancing collaborative efforts in humanitarian and development sectors.
Strategic Cooperation Agreement to Enhance Humanitarian Efforts
The meeting also served as a platform to outline various areas of potential cooperation. Participants deliberated how to strengthen the current bilateral partnership, synchronize humanitarian responses, and develop joint projects in response to the pressing needs of the Syrian population. The formal signing of the cooperation agreement took place in front of notable attendees, including Qatar’s Ambassador to Syria, H E Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud Al-Sharif, and Dr. Hossam Al-Sharkawi, Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). This agreement establishes a legal framework facilitating closer collaboration, sharing of experiences, and coordinated efforts in disaster response.
A Vision for the Future: Building on Historical Ties
In his remarks, Al-Khater emphasized the significance of this agreement as a new chapter in QRCS and SARCS’s humanitarian collaboration. He highlighted the deep-rooted connections between the peoples of Qatar and Syria, as well as the mutual understanding shared by their leaders during this moment of crisis. “Syria remains high on our list of priorities,” Al-Khater stated, recalling the national solidarity campaign launched ten years ago under the slogan “Aleppo, We Are Here for You,” which QRCS heavily supported.

Echoing Al-Khater’s sentiments, Dr. Baqleh remarked that this agreement signifies a collective commitment to humanitarian endeavors. He reiterated the importance of continuing to provide immediate relief aid, especially for the numerous Syrian families who require assistance to meet their basic humanitarian needs.
Through this new collaboration, both organizations aim not only to respond to the urgent humanitarian crisis but also to lay the groundwork for long-term development in Syria, reflecting their ongoing commitment to alleviate suffering and foster resilience in affected communities.
