The Ivriz Rock Monument, often referred to as the world’s first agricultural monument, showcases intricate carvings that highlight fertility and abundance through depictions of grapes and wheat. Dating back to the eighth century B.C., the monument features King Varpalavas of the ancient Tuwana kingdom alongside Tarhundas, a deity associated with storms and fertility. While Tarhundas is intricately detailed, holding bunches of grapes and ears of wheat, King Varpalavas is portrayed smaller, praying in humility. Mustafa Tunca, the village head, reports that approximately 12,000 people flock to Ivriz during this season, resulting in about 3,000 vehicles navigating the area. Local legends date the site back to around 726 B.C., further enhancing its allure.
The water sources in the area have recently revitalized, drawing even more visitors.
