On September 21, 2026, foreign ministers from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt convened in New York during the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly. They collectively condemned recent assaults directed at Saudi Arabia, particularly those instigated by the Houthis, reaffirming their steadfast commitment to the kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.

Reinforcing Dialogue and Cooperation

In a joint statement issued after their meeting, the ministers emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration and dialogue among their nations to foster peace, security, and stability throughout the Middle East. They expressed serious concerns regarding the persistent tensions and ongoing hostilities affecting the region. The statement stressed that dialogue and diplomatic efforts remain essential for achieving a sustainable resolution to the conflicts at hand. Among the points highlighted was the need to adhere to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to build a foundation for lasting peace and stability.

Right to Self-Defense and Maritime Safety

The foreign ministers also underscored Saudi Arabia’s inherent right to defend itself and its territory, maintaining that such actions should align with international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter. Additionally, the ministers emphasized the critical importance of ensuring safety and freedom in maritime navigation, a reflection of the shared concerns for regional stability and international trade routes.

Support for Yemen and the Palestinian Cause

The collective stance on Yemen was another focal point of their discussions. The ministers reiterated their unyielding support for the legitimate Yemeni Government and the Presidential Leadership Council in their endeavors to achieve security, stability, and development through an inclusive political process that engages all Yemeni factions.

The ministers also stressed the pivotal nature of addressing the Palestinian cause for broader peace and stability in the Middle East. They reaffirmed their commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their undeniable right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Commitment to Sudan’s Sovereignty

The statement also reaffirmed the collective commitment to safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The ministers highlighted the necessity of protecting Sudan’s legitimate national institutions and expressed opposition to any parallel structures that could undermine the country’s national unity. They recognized the urgent need to prevent the unlawful transfer of weapons, mercenaries, and foreign combatants into Sudan.

The foreign ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and regular consultations regarding regional and international developments. By enhancing collective security efforts, they aim to support enduring stability across the region. Their united front not only reinforces their individual national interests but also contributes to a broader vision for a secure and prosperous Middle East.
