Qatar’s Emir Generously Donates a Private 747 Jet to the U.S. and Falls in Love with Villa Certosa, Acquiring the 168-Acre Italian Estate for 5 Million, Complete with 126 Rooms, a Remote-Controlled Volcano, and Seven Pools

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the affluent Emir of Qatar, has made headlines with the acquisition of the extraordinary Villa Certosa on the beautiful Costa Smeralda. This luxurious estate, previously owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, was sold for an astounding price of over $400 million. The transaction epitomizes the extravagance associated with the Qatari royal family, particularly as Sheikh Tamim also added an impressive premium of $112 million to the deal, bringing the total to more than $500 million.

A Unique Ownership Transition

As reported by the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the transfer of ownership was expected to occur at the beginning of October. Villa Certosa is not just any luxurious property; it represents a blend of history and sophistication that cannot be easily replicated, even with extreme wealth. Designed as a royal compound, this estate features a main residence and several guest houses, complemented by sports and entertainment facilities, secure seaside access, and expansive landscaped grounds with an amphitheater.

Architectural Marvels and Unique Features

Over the decades, Berlusconi meticulously expanded Villa Certosa by acquiring neighboring parcels of land, integrating them into a majestic self-contained compound. This remarkable property boasts unusual elements, such as a man-made volcano and a nuclear bunker, along with serene environments filled with greenhouses, cacti, and palm trees. Spanning an impressive 120 hectares, the main residence itself covers about 4,500 square meters and is surrounded by seven swimming pools and an idyllic lake. Remarkably, Villa Certosa is said to contain 126 rooms, rivaling the main royal palace complex in Doha, which has over 100 rooms.

Hosting World Leaders

Villa Certosa’s exclusive atmosphere has enticed numerous global VIPs during its history. Berlusconi, who served as Italy’s Prime Minister from 1994 to 2011, hosted state leaders such as George W. Bush and Tony Blair within these exquisite walls. Given its history and luxurious amenities, there is speculation about the new role Villa Certosa will play under the Qatari royal family’s ownership. Will it serve as a private Sardinian residence for Sheikh Tamim, who frequently visits the area aboard his opulent mega-yacht, Al Lusail? Or will it evolve into a luxurious hospitality destination?

A Future of Luxury and Possibilities

As Villa Certosa enters a new chapter under Qatari ownership, the options appear vast. Whether used for family gatherings or transformed into an elite hospitality venture, one thing is clear: this estate stands as a testament to affluence and grandeur. From its lavish design to its unmatched features, Villa Certosa exemplifies what it means to live in luxury, making it an iconic landmark on the Costa Smeralda. The ongoing transformations and potential developments at Villa Certosa are poised to attract attention for years to come, further establishing its significance in the realm of luxurious living.
