Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan Collaborate in Significant Military Drill

Azerbaijan recently hosted a significant military exercise involving troops from Turkey and Uzbekistan, reflecting the increasing complexity of modern warfare. This unprecedented drill aimed to address current geopolitical threats and enhance collaborative military readiness among these countries. Over the past few days, soldiers practiced various scenarios, preparing for a range of potential conflicts in an evolving security landscape.

Unity in Training

The “Power of Unity-2026” exercise saw participation from more than 3,500 military personnel, marking a significant step in trilateral defense cooperation. Conducted in the Hojavend district of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, this training focused on simulating modern warfare scenarios, including drone assaults, cyberattacks, and naval operations. Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler emphasized the need for military preparedness, stating that while readiness remains crucial, the ultimate goal is to ensure peace. He praised the exercise for its thorough planning and successful execution.

During the drills, troops utilized advanced technologies, incorporating over 130 unmanned vehicles, 70 armored units, 90 artillery systems, and more than 20 aircraft. The heavy emphasis on drones showcased their transformative role in contemporary combat. Soldiers trained to counter drone swarms, conduct strikes on advancing enemy forces, and facilitate logistics through unmanned operations, indicating a shifting focus towards integrated warfare strategies.

Addressing New Challenges

The exercise transcended traditional military training, emphasizing unconventional threats that have emerged in the modern era. Participants tackled simulated cyber threats and disinformation campaigns, while also conducting counter-terrorism operations in challenging mountainous terrains. Training included the use of drones for monitoring and preventing illegal border crossings, underscoring the evolving nature of security threats in today’s fast-changing geopolitical environment.

Azerbaijan’s Defence Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, noted that the exercise encompassed land, air, and naval operations, enhancing the combat readiness of all participating forces. Uzbekistan’s Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov, remarked on the impressive demonstration of military collaboration and readiness among the countries involved.

Expanding Operational Scope

The exercise extended its focus into maritime operations, with forces rehearsing rescue missions for vessels and offshore facilities. They simulated hostage rescues and conducted ground assaults to neutralize hypothetical terrorist bases. Training venues across Baku, Nakhchivan, and the Caspian Sea contributed to a diverse range of operational scenarios explored during the exercises.

Azerbaijan and Turkey view their defense alliance as a critical element of regional stability under the 2021 Shusha Declaration. Additionally, relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have grown stronger, involving collaboration in military matters, defense technology, and training programs. Observers from nations like Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates attended the exercise, highlighting its significance and the interest it generated within the broader international community.

Strengthening Trilateral Ties

Following the exercise, the defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia convened for a trilateral meeting in Shusha. The 13th defense conference focused on enhancing military cooperation and regional security among the three nations. Colonel General Zakir Hasanov described the partnership between Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia as a vital mechanism for fostering stability and development in the region.

In summary, the recent military exercises in Azerbaijan underscore the evolving nature of defense strategies in response to contemporary threats. As military collaboration among Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan intensifies, the implications for regional security and geopolitical dynamics become increasingly significant. Through innovative training and strategic alliances, these countries aim to be better prepared for future challenges.
