UAE University to Hold the 8th International Conference on Engineering Geophysics, Sponsored by Hazza bin Zayed

The upcoming 8th International Conference on Engineering Geophysics (ICEG 2026) is set to take place from October 13 to 15, 2026, at the prestigious United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain. Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this significant event aims to bring together scientists, researchers, and geophysics experts from across the globe to discuss advancements in near-surface geophysics and its applications.

Focus on Near-Surface Geophysics Engineering

This conference is dedicated to the exploration of cutting-edge technologies for evaluating soil and infrastructure, locating groundwater resources, and supporting major urban development initiatives. It aims to delve into innovative geophysical methods that can contribute to the preservation of geological and natural heritage. By focusing on these critical areas, the conference seeks to highlight the importance of geophysics in sustainable development.

Enhancing Research and Development

His Excellency Professor Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU, has stated that hosting this conference underscores the university’s pivotal role in fostering applied research and international collaboration. He emphasized that the event aims to bridge the gap between academic research and national development priorities, particularly in sectors like infrastructure, water resource management, and environmental sustainability. Professor Al Raeesi also pointed out that UAEU dedicates resources to enhance research capabilities, thereby equipping scientists to tackle pressing engineering and environmental challenges.

Contributions to Sustainable Urban Development

His Excellency Rashed Musabbeh Al Manei, Director-General of Al Ain City Municipality, emphasized the importance of hosting such conferences in Al Ain. He noted that the event serves not only as a platform for scientific discussion but also as a means to align research with practical municipal needs. The insights gained will significantly benefit sustainable urban development and the conservation of natural resources. This collaboration marks a step forward in fostering strong connections between scientific inquiry and urban planning.

Theme and Participation Details

Professor Maamar Benkraouda, Chair of the Conference Organising Committee, announced that the conference’s theme will be “Geophysics for a Sustainable Future: Innovating for Urban Resilience and Geotourism.” This theme represents the commitment of researchers to advance sustainable development practices and improve natural resource management. Participation is expected from over 100 researchers and experts from 25 countries, showcasing a diverse array of viewpoints and insights. The accompanying exhibition will display innovations in geophysical engineering, further enriching the collaborative atmosphere.

The scientific program will feature keynote presentations, peer-reviewed research papers, and specialized workshops, which will foster a dynamic exchange of knowledge among participants. Moreover, the exhibition will include 30 local and international organizations focusing on advancements in subsurface exploration and geophysical applications.

In summary, ICEG 2026 is positioned to be a landmark event in the field of geophysics engineering. By facilitating discussions that intersect research and practical applications, this conference promises to enhance the UAE’s standing in international geophysics research while contributing to the broader goal of sustainable environmental and urban development.
