Abu Dhabi Festival 2026 Unfolds Under the Theme “The Wisdom of Culture”
The Abu Dhabi Festival has officially launched its 23rd edition, celebrating cultural richness and artistic diversity. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, alongside Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the festival commenced its exciting journey at the Etihad Arena. This year’s theme, “The Wisdom of Culture,” underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering artistic expression and cultural dialogue.
Rich Cultural Heritage and Artistic Collaboration
This year’s festival aligns with the UAE’s “Year of the Family,” marking a significant milestone of 30 years since the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF). The festival aims to celebrate the nation through a captivating lineup of performances, showcasing the UAE’s artistic depth and commitment to fostering international collaboration in the arts. Attendees witnessed a stellar performance by the UAE National Orchestra, under the direction of François López-Ferrer, a recipient of the prestigious Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, with the talented pianist David Khrikuli also taking the stage.
The evening opened with a dynamic performance of Franz von Suppé’s “Overture to Light Cavalry,” characterized by its lively rhythms. Subsequently, Khrikuli captivated the audience with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, delivering an awe-inspiring display of both lyrical beauty and technical prowess. The evening’s finale featured Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, bringing the performance to a grand conclusion through its rich melodies and folk-inspired elements.
A Celebration of Unity and Cultural Identity
Her Excellency Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, the founder of ADMAF and the Abu Dhabi Festival, emphasized in her speech the essence of this year’s celebration. She said, “The festival is an expression of our deep sense of belonging and loyalty to the United Arab Emirates—a nation of resilience and generosity.” This theme resonates deeply, highlighting culture as a unifying force that transcends differences and fosters a shared human experience.
The 23rd edition of the festival invites everyone to join in celebrating the UAE’s journey and the vibrant arts that define its identity. “The Wisdom of Culture” serves as both a theme and a guiding principle, reminding attendees of the importance of cultural exchange as a means to build a harmonious future.
Exceptional Program and Opportunities for Young Artists
Following the inaugural concert, the Abu Dhabi Festival will continue until December 19, featuring an impressive roster of acclaimed international artists, unique ensembles, and rising Emirati talents.
