Turkey embraces adoption of the Baku Declaration during the 7th CICA Summit

Türkiye recently expressed its support for the Baku Declaration, which was approved during the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). This pivotal declaration highlights the member countries’ dedication to maintaining peace, prosperity, and stability throughout the Asian continent.

Strengthening Regional Cooperation

In a statement shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, the Foreign Ministry articulated its positive response not only to the Baku Declaration but also to the inclusion of Laos as CICA’s 29th member. The ministry emphasized that this expansion would enhance the group’s overall effectiveness and strengthen collaborative efforts among participating states.

“The Baku Declaration, adopted at the Summit, reaffirms our unified commitment to nurturing peace, prosperity, and stability in Asia. This commitment is grounded in a spirit of cooperative engagement and regional ownership,” the ministry stated, underscoring the vital importance of collaboration among member nations.

Azerbaijan’s Continued Leadership

Additionally, the Turkish Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision to extend Azerbaijan’s chairmanship for the period from 2026 to 2028. This extension is seen as a key step toward ensuring institutional continuity as CICA progresses toward becoming a fully recognized international organization. Continuity in leadership is essential for maintaining the momentum needed for effective dialogue and action among member states.

The ministry also took the time to acknowledge Ambassador Kairat Sarybay for his robust and dedicated leadership during his tenure as CICA secretary-general. His efforts have been crucial in enhancing the organization’s influence on a global scale. The ministry expressed gratitude for Sarybay’s contributions, recognizing the impact he has made in elevating CICA’s importance in international discussions.

A New Era for CICA

Looking ahead, the ministry extended well wishes to Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev, who has been appointed the new CICA secretary-general. The Turkish government is optimistic that under Hajiyev’s leadership, CICA will continue to thrive and fulfill its mission of promoting peace and stability across the region.

In conclusion, Türkiye reaffirms its commitment to actively participating in CICA activities in the future. The government believes that through continued collaboration and strengthened leadership, member states can effectively address regional challenges and work towards a more peaceful and prosperous Asia. By embracing these developments, Türkiye aims to play a crucial role in advocating for cooperative approaches and reinforcing the foundation upon which CICA rests.
