Ohana denounces accusations of genocide against Israel as a ‘despicable falsehood’ during European address.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana recently delivered a passionate address at the Council of Europe, vehemently rejecting allegations of genocide against Israel. In his speech, he condemned these claims as “despicable lies” and emphasized that Israel is actively combating genocide rather than perpetrating it.

Ohana’s Stance on Genocide Accusations

Ohana firmly asserted, “Israel is not committing genocide. Enough with this despicable lie. Israel is fighting genocide.” His remarks respond to growing accusations from global leaders, which he views as unfounded and hypocritical. He articulated his frustration at what he perceives as a lack of understanding about the realities faced by Israel, especially in light of recent conflicts.

During his speech, he referenced the brutal attacks that occurred on October 7, which resulted in widespread loss of innocent lives. “On October 7, there was no collateral damage. Civilians, including men, women, and children, were deliberately targeted,” Ohana stated, highlighting the atrocities committed against the Israeli populace.

Criticism of International Leaders

Ohana did not hesitate to criticize European leaders for their perceived hypocrisy in accusing Israel of genocide amidst its struggle for survival. He expressed disappointment in what he called a “severe crisis of international courage,” lamenting that many world leaders fail to uphold their proclaimed values when the opportunity to act arises. He emphasized that, increasingly, superficial support is often used for political gain, which he finds morally unacceptable.

“Some leaders are lying and supporting false propaganda to gain fleeting electoral support,” Ohana added, further underlining the ethical ramifications of such actions. His statements encourage reflection on the motivations behind public positions and highlight the need for consistent moral clarity.

The Memory of Loss and Responsibility

Marking the three-year anniversary of the October 7 attacks, Ohana recalled the chaos unleashed by Hamas. He painted a vivid picture of that day, describing a swarm of “bloodthirsty terrorists” executing heinous acts of violence against civilian communities. He presented a powerful symbol before the attendees: a thick book titled “And Every Single One Was Someone,” which contains the word “Jew” printed six million times. This poignant representation serves to honor the six million victims of the Holocaust, reminding leaders of the gravity of genocide.

“This book is my reminder that ‘never again’ must not become an empty slogan. The State of Israel bears the ongoing responsibility of preventing genocide,” Ohana concluded, reinforcing the idea that historical losses inform present duties.

Call for Global Solidarity with Israel

In closing his address, Ohana framed the current conflict as a critical global confrontation between opposing civilizations. He urged world leaders to align themselves with the principles of liberty, freedom, and democracy by standing with Israel. “This war transcends local battles; it advocates for fundamental human values,” he asserted, imploring nations to reflect on their historical responsibilities.

As Ohana meets with various parliamentary speakers from countries such as Germany, Italy, and Ukraine, he aims to bolster inter-parliamentary relationships and explain Israel’s position. Through these dialogues, he hopes to foster stronger international support amid contemporary challenges.
