In the UAE Pro League clash on Friday evening, Al Wasl secured a crucial victory against Bani Yas, winning the match 2-0 at Bani Yas Stadium. This important win not only marked a return to form for Al Wasl but also temporarily elevated them to the top of the league standings. With this victory, they added three points to their tally, pushing their total to 13.
Mehdi Taremi Gives Al Wasl the Lead
Bani Yas kicked off the match with aggressive energy, hoping to leverage the home advantage. They created several promising opportunities in the early minutes; however, their finishing left much to be desired as they missed crucial chances. Just as they seemed to build momentum, Al Wasl struck first in the 11th minute. A well-timed pass from Nicolas Jimenez found Mehdi Taremi, who made no mistake, scoring with a deft touch that sent the ball into the net.
Following the opening goal, Bani Yas attempted to respond and find an equalizer. However, Al Wasl showcased remarkable composure and defensive discipline. Just before halftime, Cameron Puertas compounded Bani Yas’s woes by scoring a second goal in the first minute of stoppage time. Receiving the ball inside the penalty area, he launched a powerful shot that put Al Wasl firmly in control with a 2-0 lead as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Al-Qaim Thwarts Bani Yas’ Attempts
As the second half unfolded, Bani Yas ramped up their efforts in an attempt to claw back into the game. Their determination nearly paid off in the 54th minute when Godwin struck a shot on target, only to be thwarted by the post. The near miss was a bitter reminder for Bani Yas of their struggles, as they continued to push for a goal that would reignite their hope in the match.
Despite their aggressive advances, Al Wasl’s goalkeeper, Horkas, was exceptional, making several pivotal saves. His performance in the 59th minute was particularly notable, as he denied another strong effort from Bani Yas, keeping their net clean. At the same time, Taremi nearly added to Al Wasl’s tally in the 70th minute when he skillfully maneuvered past the goalkeeper after a brilliant pass from Fabio Lima. Unfortunately for Al Wasl, his shot hit the post, leaving the score unchanged.
In the waning moments of the match, both teams continued to exchange chances, but neither was able to find the back of the net again. Al Wasl ultimately walked away with a vital three points, reinforcing their position as serious contenders in the ADNOC Professional League. This victory not only boosts their confidence but also highlights their potential as they aim for the top spot in the standings. Bani Yas, on the other hand, remains rooted at the bottom with just one point, facing a challenging season ahead.
