Qatar and France Prepared to Aid Syria’s Stability and Economic Revival

On October 22, Qatar and France publicly expressed their commitment to collaborate on initiatives that foster stability and economic recovery in Syria. This declaration was made during a joint statement released by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Doha.

Enhancing Bilateral Ties for Greater Stability

In this statement, both nations highlighted their existing partnership in civil protection, particularly emphasizing support for the Syrian Civil Defense. The discussions underlined the importance of continuous collaboration in regional matters to ensure both stability and sustainable development. The dialogue took place during Macron’s state visit on October 20 and 21, where both leaders recognized the need to deepen bilateral relationships. They discussed various areas of cooperation, including defense, security, energy, economic investment, cultural exchanges, and political coordination.

Addressing Regional Challenges and Energy Security

The talks also focused on pressing regional issues, where the leaders condemned recent Iranian attacks on neighboring countries. They called for enhanced diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation in the region. Both Qatar and France emphasized the urgent need for a diplomatic resolution to the Iranian nuclear situation, advocating for unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to safeguard energy security and stabilize energy supplies.

A Commitment to a Peaceful Two-State Solution

The two nations reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution, which envisions an independent Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel. Both countries opposed the ongoing annexation of the West Bank and called for an end to Israeli settlement activities and violence perpetrated by settlers. They also stressed the importance of enforcing the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and ensuring unhindered humanitarian assistance to its population.

Support for Lebanon’s Sovereignty and International Cooperation

Qatar and France reiterated their commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability. They underscored the significance of continued international support for Lebanese authorities and military forces in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to reclaim Lebanese sovereignty over its territory. Macron’s visit to the region was part of a broader Gulf tour that included Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, highlighting France’s commitment to strengthening economic and defense ties in the Middle East.

In summary, the collaborative efforts between Qatar and France signify a strategic approach to enhancing regional stability, economic recovery in Syria, and support for Lebanon’s sovereignty. Both nations aim to tackle significant challenges through diplomatic means while fostering partnerships that promote peace and economic growth in the region.
