Qatar Airways enhances its onboard beverage offerings.

Qatar Airways has unveiled an exciting new cocktail and non-alcoholic beverage program, featuring a curated selection of 15 drinks designed to elevate the in-flight experience. Targeted at both First and Business Class passengers, as well as guests visiting the Airbus A380 Inflight Lounge, this unique offering promises to impress travelers who appreciate premium beverages at high altitudes.

Collaboration with Renowned Mixologist

The airline partnered with Lorenzo Antinori, the co-founder of Bar Leone and acclaimed mixologist, to craft this selection of signature drinks. Under his guidance, Qatar Airways aims to bring the artistry and precision of mixology from the world’s best bar to its flying passengers. “The collaboration encapsulates my passion for cocktails while addressing the challenges of serving drinks at 30,000 feet,” said Antinori. The completion of this program involved months of careful research and practical application, ensuring that every drink meets the airline’s high standards.

Diverse and Flavorful Offerings

The drink collection is anchored by four main cocktails. Highlights include The Aviator, a delightful blend of Cognac, Champagne, and orange juice; G&Tea, which infuses traditional gin and tonic with tea; Golden Delilah, a refreshing mix of vodka, Champagne, and apple juice; and the tropical Havana Punch, a rum-based offering. First-class passengers can indulge in additional premium selections like the Tokyo 75 and Japanese Old Fashioned, while business class patrons can savor the Italian Highball and Old Smoke.

Ingredient quality is paramount; the program showcases an impressive roster of spirits, including renowned gin brands like Roku, The Botanist, and Bombay Sapphire, alongside Hennessy Cognac, Bacardi Añejo Cuatro Rum, and Hibiki Japanese Harmony Whisky.

Innovative Cocktail Design at High Altitudes

Crafting cocktails for flight is not without its challenges. “At cruising altitude, our taste buds and sense of smell are significantly dulled,” Antinori noted. Research reveals that our sensitivity to sweet and salty flavors diminishes by approximately 30% while flying, making it essential for cocktail recipes to focus on citrus and umami notes that stand out.

Among Antinori’s personal favorites from the menu are the Tokyo 75—featuring Japanese gin, lemon, sugar, and mint topped with Champagne—and the Italian Highball, made from extra dry vermouth, bitters, and soda. “These drinks offer elegance and refreshment, perfect for enjoying at altitude,” he emphasized.

Non-Alcoholic Options for Modern Travelers

Understanding the growing demand for non-alcoholic beverages, the program also presents a noteworthy selection of sophisticated options. Signature alcohol-free choices include Sunrise Punch, Oriental Fizz, White Blossom, Virgin Bloody Mary, and Pineapple Margarita. This initiative reflects the airline’s commitment to accommodating all travelers and enhancing the overall in-flight experience.

Antinori considers this partnership a significant milestone in his career, adding it to a year filled with prestigious collaborations that have included the Oscars Governors Ball. He expressed excitement about creating cocktails in partnership with “the greatest airline,” emphasizing the unique opportunity to extend their philosophy of craftsmanship to the skies.

In summary, Qatar Airways is taking significant steps to enrich its premium hospitality offerings by integrating a high-quality beverage program that highlights both innovative cocktails and thoughtful non-alcoholic options. This development aims to ensure that every passenger enjoys a memorable experience that aligns with the airline’s reputation for excellence.
