Al-Sisi and Abbas Reach Consensus on Increasing Collaboration Regarding Gaza and the West Bank

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have committed to enhancing political collaboration between Egypt and the Palestinian Authority. This comes as Cairo intensifies its efforts to implement a peace agreement aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza and firmly opposes any plans that could lead to the displacement of Palestinians.

Strengthening Peace Efforts

The Egyptian presidency announced that President Al-Sisi conveyed to President Abbas Egypt’s dedication to continuing its mediation efforts, particularly concerning the agreement made during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025. Al-Sisi emphasized the importance of all involved parties adhering to the terms of the agreement. This includes curtailing hostilities, guaranteeing the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and fostering conditions conducive to early recovery and reconstruction.

In light of the ongoing hostilities, Al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s firm stance against any actions that would lead to the forced displacement of the Palestinian people or undermine the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. He reaffirmed Cairo’s unwavering support for the Palestinian Authority and highlighted the necessity for unity among various Palestinian factions.

The Path to Lasting Stability

During their discussions, Al-Sisi articulated that establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is crucial for fostering lasting peace and broader regional stability. This vision aligns with the aspirations of many in the international community who seek a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

President Abbas provided President Al-Sisi with an update on the situation in the Palestinian territories, particularly the West Bank. Abbas attributed the prevailing conditions to Israeli policies, further complicating efforts for peace and stability in the region.

Ongoing High-Level Communication

Both leaders agreed to maintain open lines of communication and to bolster political coordination at all levels regarding developments within the Palestinian territories as well as the broader regional landscape. This ongoing dialogue underscores their commitment to addressing the complex issues facing the Palestinian people and ensuring their rights are upheld.

The coordination between Egypt and the Palestinian Authority is essential not only for peace negotiations but also for the provision of humanitarian assistance in times of crisis. By reinforcing their partnership, both leaders aim to create a framework that can effectively respond to the needs of the Palestinian populace while striving for a long-term solution to the conflict. The collaboration promises to foster a more stable and peaceful environment for all parties involved.

Through these efforts, Egypt aims to enhance its role as a key mediator in the peace process, advocating for the rights of Palestinians and working towards a sustainable resolution that honors their aspirations for statehood.
