Egypt Aims for 30 Million Tourists by 2030 – Travel Daily Media

Egypt’s tourism sector is experiencing a notable resurgence, with 14.4 million international travelers recorded in the first three quarters of 2026—a 4% increase from the previous year. This growth was prominently showcased at the 26th World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Valletta, Malta. Egypt is setting its sights on an ambitious target of welcoming 30 million visitors annually by 2030, backed by substantial investments in both hotel development and aviation infrastructure.

Expanding Hotel Capacity

To meet the rising tourist demand, the Egyptian Tourism Authority has announced plans for around 35,000 new hotel rooms, aiming to double the existing capacity of 240,000. The focus will also include significant investments in high-end luxury accommodations, designed to attract upscale travelers. Furthermore, expansion projects at key airports—such as Cairo International Airport, El-Alamein, Sphinx, and Marsa Matrouh—are currently being implemented to facilitate the increasing influx of tourists arriving in the country.

A Leadership Milestone

At the WTTC Global Summit, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, was honored with the WTTC Global Champion Award for his exemplary leadership in the travel and tourism sector. Fathy underscored the vital role of collaboration between the public and private sectors, stressing the need to maintain authenticity while securing investments. He stated, “We are committed to supporting and empowering the private sector, both locally and internationally, as a key driver of sustainable growth.” This commitment reflects Egypt’s approach to balancing economic growth with the preservation of its cultural heritage.

Harnessing Diverse Destinations

Egypt boasts a plethora of diverse destinations that play a crucial role in attracting tourists. From the stunning landscapes of the Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts to the historical wonders housed in the Grand Egyptian Museum, the country is rich in offerings. Egypt’s involvement in the Global Summit builds upon its established relationship with the WTTC, having previously hosted the first-ever Leadership Cruise along the Suez Canal in May 2026. As Egypt continues to elevate its tourism initiatives, it remains steadfast in providing a wide array of authentic and sustainable experiences for travelers around the globe.

Path Towards Sustainable Growth

Egypt’s tourism strategy not only aims to increase visitor numbers but also emphasizes sustainability. The government is keen on ensuring that tourism-driven development does not compromise the environmental and cultural integrity of its destinations. By focusing on responsible tourism practices, Egypt aspires to become a model for other nations, demonstrating that economic growth can go hand-in-hand with preserving the natural and cultural landscape.

In summary, with a well-structured plan and significant investments in infrastructure, Egypt is poised to become a leading destination in global tourism. The recognition of its leadership and the commitment to more sustainable tourism practices will further solidify its standing in the international travel community. As the country looks to the future, it invites travelers to experience its rich history and diverse beauty.
