Egypt is taking significant steps to bolster vital infrastructure in the southern Nile Basin by supporting the funding for 36 key energy and water projects. These initiatives aim to enhance cross-border electrical connections, develop power transmission networks, and improve water supply systems among other multipurpose facilities.

Hani Sewilam, the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, revealed that Egypt’s commitment to these projects arose from an extensive process of research, information exchange, and impact assessments. The projects span several countries in the southern Nile Basin, including Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
