FIFA Requested Egypt to Eliminate Seven Stars from Their Uniform Months Prior, Says EFA

Egypt’s national football team, commonly known as the Pharaohs, is set to showcase a modified kit during the upcoming FIFA World Cup. This change comes as they prepare to compete in their first World Cup since 2018. They will enter the tournament without the customary seven stars on their jerseys, which symbolize their seven victories in the Africa Cup of Nations. This adjustment has been made in compliance with FIFA’s regulations.

Compliance with FIFA Regulations

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed that this change was necessary due to a directive from FIFA. The association’s media officer, Mohamed Morad Thabet, stated: “It was a routine procedure: four months ago, FIFA notified the Football Association regarding the issue of not displaying the Africa Cup of Nations stars on the national team’s jersey during World Cup matches.” This proactive approach ensures that the national team is in line with FIFA’s guidelines, which restrict stars on jerseys to only those earned in the World Cup.

Typically, national teams have discretion regarding what historical accolades are showcased on their kits. Some countries choose to display stars for various tournaments, but FIFA maintains strict rules during the World Cup itself, allowing stars solely for World Cup victories. An exception exists for Uruguay, which can display four stars, representing their World Cup wins and Olympic gold medals.

Changes to the Kit and Visibility Improvements

In light of another FIFA request, Egypt has also made adjustments to the color of their jersey numbers. Originally gold, the numbers will now be white to enhance visibility during matches. Morad explained, “Puma, the company responsible for the jerseys’ color scheme, made the switch to white to ensure the numbers were more clearly visible.” Such modifications reflect the team’s commitment to adhering to international standards while ensuring that players are easily identifiable on the field.

In their recent World Cup history, Egypt’s participation has been challenging. Their last appearance in 2018 ended in disappointment, with the team failing to secure any victories in the group stage. Prior outings in 1934 and 1990 did not yield any wins either. As they step onto the global stage once again, the Pharaohs are eager to change their fortunes and improve upon past performances.

Looking Ahead: The Pharaohs’ Tournament Schedule

The Egyptian football squad will kick off their World Cup journey against Belgium in Seattle. This match is set to take place on Monday, followed by a clash against New Zealand in Vancouver six days later. The team will conclude their group stage matches against Iran on June 26 back in Seattle. The Pharaohs have a history of passionate support from their fans, and they will be counting on this support to inspire a strong showing in this prestigious tournament.

As Egypt takes this important step towards establishing their legacy in the World Cup, they are ready to face formidable opponents and showcase their skills. Whether it’s adapting their kit to meet FIFA regulations or preparing strategically for their upcoming matches, the Pharaohs are focused on making their mark in international football once again. With determination and hope, they aim to make their presence felt on the world stage.
