The trio includes a 27-year-old married father of two, a 28-year-old married father of five, and a 25-year-old man. All three hail from the al-Azazmeh Bedouin tribe, highlighting their cultural ties amidst this alarming situation. They had recently finished a vacation in Sharm el-Sheikh and were traveling toward the Taba border crossing when they were unexpectedly removed from their taxi. Reports indicate that they were forcibly taken away by men believed to be Egyptian intelligence officers.

Just prior to the loss of contact, one of the detainees managed to send a message to his family, stating, “They’re arresting us.” He also reached out to a friend in Israel, informing them, “They’re detaining us, but I’ll be back tomorrow. If not, you should know that we are in Egyptian custody.” This message has been a source of both hope and concern for their families, who have been grappling with uncertainty since that day.
In an effort to address the situation, the families initially opted to keep the matter private, believing that a discreet approach might expedite the release of their loved ones. However, as the days turned into weeks, the absence of any substantial information forced them to take further action.

The families sought assistance from legal representatives in Egypt to gain clarity about the circumstances of the detainees. Unfortunately, the two local attorneys hired for the case were unable to uncover any details and eventually withdrew from their involvement. A statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry offers some insight but remains limited. Merav Marks, director of the ministry’s Department of Diplomatic and Civil Law, confirmed that they had verified the detention of the three men. However, beyond acknowledging their custody, little additional information has been shared regarding their situation.
Marks noted, “Based on the inquiries we have conducted since March 21, when the Foreign Ministry learned that your clients had lost contact, we have been working with the relevant authorities in Egypt to obtain information about their condition. Our representatives confirmed that the three are indeed being held in detention, yet we have not been able to gather more details despite numerous inquiries to the Egyptian authorities.”
