Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has firmly dismissed allegations made by Iraq’s National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Abudi, claiming that Kyiv was involved in bombing incidents on Iraqi territory. These statements were brought to light on July 28, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
Disputed Claims by Iraqi Officials
In an interview with Dijlah TV, al-Abudi asserted that an Iraqi intelligence unit had determined there was “Ukrainian interference” in Iraq. Interestingly, he acknowledged during the same discussion that he lacked any concrete evidence to back these accusations. He suggested that foreigners detained in Iraq had confessed to executing government facility bombings while working under the directive of Kyiv. However, he failed to specify the sites that were allegedly targeted or to identify the groups behind these claims.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi highlighted that al-Abudi himself conceded the absence of factual support for his allegations. Tykhyi emphasized that it is vital for diplomatic communications to occur through the appropriate channels, especially before making such serious public statements. The spokesperson conveyed that Ukraine had only learned of these accusations through a live television broadcast, questioning the seriousness and credibility of the claims.
