The museum recently welcomed Levi’s family and State Representative Bill Schuette for the unveiling of this heartfelt exhibit. Dani Hoover, Levi’s younger sister, reflects on his character, stating, “He was a loving kid with a good sense of humor, hardworking, and truly honorable about his service.” She recalls how Levi loved the great outdoors and valued his family, demonstrating a profound sense of loyalty that extended to his country as well.
Levi joined the Army at the age of 23 to pursue his dream of becoming a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. His dedication was evident from the start, as he had previously completed several ride-alongs in preparation for a future career in law enforcement. Levi was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he participated in numerous combat patrols. Tragically, on April 7, 2007, he encountered an IED during one of these missions, resulting in his untimely death alongside three other soldiers.
Impact and Legacy
Douglas Kolar, who narrated Levi’s story at the museum, shares the somber details of that fateful day. “They were on a patrol like they had done many times before when they ran into an explosive device,” he recounts. Levi, along with Specialist Ebe F. Emolo, Private First Class Rodney L. McCandless, and Captain Jonathan D. Grassbaugh, made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation on that day.
To ensure Levi’s memory endures, Dani Hoover is collaborating with State Rep. Bill Schuette to have a section of US-10 in Midland County named in honor of her brother. The initiative has successfully passed in the House and is now awaiting approval in the Senate. This effort not only commemorates Levi but also inspires future generations to remember the sacrifices made by service members.
