Israeli Defense and Finance Ministries Unveil Tenders for Defense Technology Capital Fund

Israel’s Tender Awards: A Leap for Defense Technology

On Tuesday, Adir Capital and Sling Capital emerged victorious in a tender for state-supported venture capital funds dedicated to advancing defense technologies. This collaboration, announced by both the Defense Ministry and Foreign Ministry, sets the stage for significant innovations in the defense sector and the broader Israeli economy.

Significance of the Announcement

The Finance Ministry’s Accountant-General’s Division and the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (MAFAT) expressed complete confidence in the selected firms. The tender committee emphasized that this funding aims to reach meaningful goals and stimulate breakthroughs that will benefit both the defense sector and the wider economy.

Adir Capital is affiliated with Idan Financial Instruments, while Sling Capital operates under the Giza umbrella. This synergy of corporate strength is expected to leverage private capital effectively, aiming to foster a thriving “Defense-Tech” ecosystem in Israel.

Strategic Vision for Israel’s Defense

Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, Director-General of the Defense Ministry, described this initiative as a crucial step toward achieving the Ministry’s vision to elevate Israel’s unique ecosystem to a global leader in the defense-tech space. He stressed the necessity of increasing investments in research and development, particularly in light of regional tensions and the need to maintain Israel’s qualitative edge in defense capabilities.

He stated, “After years of conflict, it’s imperative to further invest in research and development to secure our defense establishment’s strategic superiority and innovate the next generation of technology-based solutions.”

Collaboration and Innovation

Accountant-General Michal Abadi-Boiangiu underscored this announcement as a validation of the close partnership between the Accountant-General’s Division and the defense establishment. She noted that the initiative aims to strengthen Israel’s technological and industrial independence while supporting local entrepreneurship.

“This vision is becoming a reality,” she highlighted, emphasizing the goal of ensuring critical supply chains for both routine operations and emergencies, thereby enhancing the nation’s resilience and innovation capabilities.

Dr. Danny Gold, head of MAFAT, described the fund as instrumental in reinforcing Israel’s technological superiority. He emphasized that the close integration of private venture capital, innovative approaches, and defense needs will accelerate technological advancements, ensuring that Israel maintains its production independence and quality standards.

The Role of State Guarantees in Economic Growth

Gil Cohen, Senior Deputy to the Accountant-General and Finance Division Chief, discussed the crucial role of state guarantees as “a strategic engine for the economy.” He explained that these guarantees facilitate leveraging investments not just in national defense but also in the emerging defense-technology sector, which is vital for Israel’s strength and growth.

“Our approach allows the economy to pivot towards utilizing these investments effectively,” Cohen added, stating that he is optimistic about the significant milestones the Israeli defense-tech market is set to achieve under the leadership of the winning firms.

Overall, this development marks a promising chapter in Israel’s defense landscape, as the synergies between private capital and government strategy pave the way for enhanced security and economic growth.
