China has officially launched its most extensive and intricate international offshore oil and gas engineering project. This endeavor, which commenced in Qingdao, is poised to enhance the cooperative trajectory of the Belt and Road Initiative significantly.

The Qatar BH EPIC project is spearheaded by the China Offshore Oil Engineering Co Ltd (COOEC), a subsidiary of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Situated in the Bul Hanine oilfield off Qatar’s coast, this ambitious project is supported by QatarEnergy and has a contract valuation close to $4 billion. This expansive energy project encompasses the creation of over 60 individual offshore oil and gas facilities, supplemented by the installation of 40 subsea pipelines and cables. According to Xie Qinbao, the general manager for the Qatar BH EPIC project at COOEC, the construction demands an impressive 130,000 metric tons of steel, showcasing a comprehensive range of processes, from engineering design to the final commissioning stage.
