Qatar Airways is set to enhance its operations in Africa with the resumption of flights, increased frequency, and the introduction of a new route to Sudan in July 2026. This strategic expansion is a part of the airline’s initiative to rebuild its global network, which aims to cover over 160 destinations worldwide.
Flight Resumptions Across Africa
Beginning June 16, 2026, Qatar Airways will restart its flights to key African destinations. Specifically, the airline will offer four weekly flights to Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) and two weekly flights to Kigali International Airport (KGL) in Rwanda. Additionally, a daily service to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) in Morocco will recommence on July 1, 2026. These resuming services aim to improve connectivity for travelers seeking access to these vibrant locations.
Increased Frequencies to Major African Cities
In conjunction with the resumptions, Qatar Airways plans to increase flight frequencies to several prominent African cities. For example, flights to Borg El Arab Airport (HBE) in Alexandria will rise from three to seven weekly services, while Cairo International Airport (CAI) is set to experience an increase from 28 to 35 weekly flights. Cape Town International Airport (CPT) will see its services go from seven to ten weekly flights. Furthermore, routes to Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) and the Lusaka-Harare connection will also see frequency enhancements, thereby improving travel options across the continent.
New Route to Port Sudan
In a significant move to broaden its reach within Africa, Qatar Airways will initiate a new route to Port Sudan International Airport (PZU) on July 2, 2026. This service will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Flight QR1319 will depart from Hamad International Airport (DOH) at 09:00 local time, landing in Port Sudan by 11:00 local time. The return flight, QR1320, is scheduled to leave Port Sudan at 12:25, arriving back in Doha by 16:20. This new route is expected to offer enhanced travel options for passengers from the Middle East and Southeast Asia, facilitating smoother connections through Doha.
