Qatar and France urge Israel to pull out of Gaza

Following discussions in Doha, Qatar and France have jointly urged Israel to withdraw its military forces from Gaza while adhering to the established ceasefire agreements. They also called for an end to Israel’s settlement expansion policies in the occupied West Bank. This resolution was articulated in a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs after a meeting between Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Urgent Appeals for Gaza and the West Bank

The two nations expressed their strong disapproval of any potential annexation of territories in the West Bank. They emphasized the need for halting Israeli settlement activities, along with the violence perpetrated by settlers. Both Qatar and France highlighted the importance of fully implementing ceasefire agreements concerning Gaza, which include the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the swift, unhindered distribution of humanitarian aid. Additionally, they reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution and the necessity of conducting Palestinian elections.

Concerns Over Regional Instability

The statement also addressed the escalating tensions tied to Iran, condemning its military actions against neighboring countries. Qatar and France called for a diplomatic approach that ensures Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful. They advocated for maintaining open navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without fees to facilitate regional trade and transportation.

In discussing Lebanon, both nations voiced their support for the full implementation of a trilateral framework agreement designed to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, disarm Hezbollah, and ensure the withdrawal of Israeli military forces. They warned about the risks of a security vacuum following the expiration of the UN peacekeeping mission’s mandate and urged for sustained international backing for Lebanon’s authorities and armed forces.

Growth of Cooperation in the Region

Furthermore, Qatar and France expressed their readiness to collaborate on stabilization and economic initiatives in Syria, coordinating closely with the Syrian government. They also agreed to enhance their collaboration across various fields, particularly in defense, security, and economic cooperation.

As geopolitical currents continue to shift in the Middle East, the partnership between Qatar and France underscores a united front in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation in the region. The emphasis on a two-state solution and humanitarian aid delivery illustrates a commitment not only to immediate conflict resolution but also to long-term peace-building efforts in the area.
