Qatar has made substantial strides in its digital landscape, leading to the establishment of 130 startups that have collectively generated over QR178 million in revenue and raised more than QR316 million in funding, as reported by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). This growth reflects the nation’s commitment to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Boosting Local Employment through Digital Initiatives
The MCIT’s data highlights a significant leap in local job creation, with 1,485 jobs added as a direct result of supporting tech-centric entrepreneurship. The latest advancements illustrate the flourishing digital ecosystem, propelled by collaborative initiatives such as the TASMU Accelerator, Digital Incubation Center, Scale Now Program, and SME GO DIGITAL. These interconnected platforms provide vital support for entrepreneurs, guiding them through various developmental phases. They convert innovative ideas into enduring business realities, essential for diversifying Qatar’s economy beyond its traditional hydrocarbon-centric model.
Support for Startups and Entrepreneurs
The Digital Incubation Center has focused on nurturing initial ventures, having supported 1,078 entrepreneurs to date, including 167 Qatari and 256 women entrepreneurs, with 56 being Qatari nationals. The success of the TASMU Accelerator is evident, as it has positioned Qatar as a prominent hub for high-growth technological innovation. Startups worldwide, numbering 78 countries, applied to this accelerator, leading to 45 of them successfully launching operations within Qatar. With over 3,000 hours of mentorship, specialized workshops, and training, these startups have collectively reached a remarkable valuation of QR10.2 billion.
Commercial Impact and Global Reach
The TASMU Accelerator has generated sales amounting to QR1.6 billion and facilitated QR1 billion in funding since its inception. These accomplishments signify strong commercial viability and growing investor confidence, enhancing Qatar’s appeal as a prime destination for international tech talent aiming to expand their operations across the broader region. Meanwhile, the Scale Now Program continues to endorse cross-border company expansions, having received 276 applications so far and supported 41 companies in their aspirations, with 12 currently advancing through Cycle 4 and facilitating over QR52 million in funding.
Digital Transformation for Small and Medium Enterprises
Additionally, the SME GO DIGITAL initiative has played a crucial role in equipping the local business sector. By assessing 220 small and medium enterprises, it has developed tailored digital transformation strategies to enhance their operational efficiency. The program has successfully conducted 26 awareness sessions and 108 business-matching programs while onboarding 61 digital service providers, culminating in 30 agreements between local businesses and technology solution providers.
