Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly rejected allegations made by Iran concerning the detention of three military pilots whose aircraft crashed at the onset of the conflict, labeling these claims as entirely unfounded. The spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, stated that the assertions made by Iran are “completely baseless, false and illogical.” This statement underscores Qatar’s commitment to asserting its sovereignty and addressing international relations through diplomatic channels.
Denial of Detainment Claims
During a recent press conference, al-Ansari clarified that Qatar had already returned the remains of one pilot to an Iranian delegation last April, further negating any accusations of holding prisoners. This announcement was made in light of Iranian officials’ assertions that the pilots were captured alive and are under detention in Qatar. General Mohammad Bagherzadeh, an Iranian military official, alleged that the pilots—Javad Salehi, Abdolmajid Dashtian, and Omran Behraveshian—were captured following their planes crashing in March.
