Celebrating Growth in Qatar’s Tourism Sector
Doha’s tourism industry continues to evolve, highlighted by Qatar Tourism’s Service Excellence Academy, which recently celebrated the successful completion of its tour guide training and youth development programs. During the “Legacy of Guides: Generation to Generation” event on September 5, 2026, a total of 147 participants were recognized for their hard work and dedication.
Highlights of the Ceremony
The ceremony showcased a variety of training initiatives. The Junior Tour Guide Summer Camp 2026, which hosted an impressive 110 children, focused on introducing the fundamentals of tourism and cultural storytelling. Additionally, the “Guiding the Next Generation” Train-the-Trainer Program trained eight licensed Qatari tour guides, preparing them to pass on their knowledge and skills to aspiring guides. The Youth Tour Guide Training Program saw 19 participants complete their training, while the Tour Guide Licensing Program successfully certified 11 new guides.
Omar Abdulrahman Al Jaber, Director of Operations Affairs at Qatar Tourism, emphasized the vital role of tour guides in enriching the visitor experience. He stated, “Tour guides play an essential role in bringing Qatar’s culture, heritage, and stories to life. Our investment in local talent and engagement with youth through the Service Excellence Academy is pivotal for the growth of Qatar’s tourism industry.”
Partnership and Community Support
The ceremony also acknowledged the collaborators and trainers who contributed to these programs. These partners played an essential role in hosting educational visits, thus enriching the learning experience for participants throughout the year. Among the key partners are Qatar Youth Hostels, Teen Hub by Qatar Museums, KidzMondo, Qatar Rail, and several renowned museums, including the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar.
The Tour Guide Training Program has been running since 2016 in collaboration with Qatar Youth Hostels and is now in its fourth iteration. This year, the Junior Tour Guide Summer Camp successfully completed its second edition, while the newly introduced Youth Tour Guide Training Program marks a significant step toward preparing future generations for careers in tourism. These initiatives aim to provide young individuals with early exposure to the industry, thus increasing their prospects in a rapidly growing sector.
Building Local Talent for Sustainable Growth
By investing in these tour guide development programs, Qatar Tourism is not only enhancing local skills but also fostering a sustainable talent pipeline. These efforts are crucial for supporting the ongoing growth of Qatar’s tourism sector as it aims to attract visitors from around the globe.
In summary, the commitment shown by Qatar Tourism and its partners during this ceremony is indicative of a thoughtful approach to training and development. By nurturing the next generation of tour guides, Qatar is ensuring that its rich cultural tapestry and heritage are thoughtfully communicated to visitors, thus creating memorable experiences that showcase the nation’s beauty and history.
